The Secret Pattern Behind the Entire Fretboard

Hello,

Thank you @Dave_Birnie for this nice session, very informative. As you said, I learn theory and I learn guitar but the 2 things don’t match together. Thanks to that session, it’s getting better and I see how it connects.
Could you add the PDF to the archive? Thank you!

This was a cool lesson for sure. It was nice seeing Dave doing a lesson.

Thanks Dave

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift…

What session? Who is Dave?

The secrets of the fretboard only truly start to reveal themselves when you listen to it.

The session was part of the Practical Music Theory course (there are monthly live sessions) which is exclusive for subscribers.

Dave Birnie was the teacher for this session. Most people know Dave from BLIM, but he also is teaching assistant for PMT now, I think. There was an announcement a while back, if I am not mistaken.

So the lord it pleased must have been Mountbatten.

Mine remains resolutely silent. The strings, however, are an open book.

It’s a secret.

That’s why they won’t tell us.

Is it the secret of eternal life, go on, tell us, we were here first

Oh no! I’m beginning to get vaporware vibes. There are a million videos on YouTube that in so many words say ‘learn this secret trick in five minutes and save ten years of struggle with the guitar!’ They invariably turn out to obsess about one not particularly obscure aspect of the fretboard. I know because I’ve clicked on a few. Tell me it’s not that! :scream:

DON NOT READ THIS

It’s using the shape of different intervals to find notes, construct chords or arpeggios everywhere around the neck or whatever. It was basically about the intervals, their shapes and how to practically use them. I hope I didn’t spoil the soup of the banter. It was just too funny to follow along.

I hope you haven’t read it!!

I’m afraid we need to end your existence if we answer that… :scream: Altertnatively, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are soon about to appear.

Wait, what were we talking about.

PS: Please forgive me, it’s brain melting hot here.

I just watched the first 20 mins of the recording. I kind of understand the theory but I don’t know how people can memorize this stuff. I’ve got no hope of been able to apply it. :frowning:

Just dont watch any beauties that are bathing on a roof, or you are likely get tied to a kitchen chair, possibly have your hair cut also.
 :innocent:

All jokes aside, these intervals are really cool, I had not looked at them in use practically with roots on the 5th string. So this was really good to see it layed out that way and then reinforced over and over in multiple examples.

It really landed for me and it was a fantastic lesson for me.

I’m having a wrist problem, so I’ve had to take MONTHS off lessons, and I miss it like crazy. This is great! I can learn something useful and guitar-related even while I can’t play (and I need this – I’m terrible at knowing where the various notes are). I’ve only watched the first 20 minutes (bottom two strings) so far – need that to sink in before I try to memorize more – and I bought the app so I can practice.

In case anyone else is looking for the link for the app, it’s at https://www.justinguitar.com/store/note-trainer-app and it’s $4.99 (I’ll consider it a medical expense  ).

Is there a recording for members who couldn’t make it on the live stream?

If you have a PMT membership you’ll find the lesson here

https://www.justinguitar.com/live-events/249

@akkana The video these guys are talking about isn’t the live stream Justin did for his new app. It’s a live stream Dave Birnie (one of the Justin appoved teachers) did on intervals for the PMT course. If you have membership to the course you can access it from the link I posted
