The Situation (AI)

Situation: A set of circumstances in which one finds oneself: A state of affairs

Lyric prompts in the video description.

Clint swimming against the tide again… I’m diggin’ it! :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

The guitar intro and vocals were cool- less enthusiastic about the backing band/track.
I prefer this to most of the ā€˜new’ songs I’d hear on mainstream radio. That’s a win, I suppose.
The production is top notch, but for me the lyrics let it down. I don’t understand what it’s about beyond the ā€˜situation’, and it sounds like someone (or in this case some algorithm) simply looked up a bunch of words rhyming with ā€˜-ation’ (Still a lot better than She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah )
I could only find the lyrics on YT, but not the promised prompts.
For me, the main interest in this kind of exercise would be what were the prompts you used, as in, how much of Clint’s creativity was involved?
AI is a powerful tool, but I’m less interested in what the tools can do than what the person (or organisation) wielding them is trying to do.
Thanks for the visuals. I always prefer something to watch/read whilst I’m listening (If it’s a song I love, my imagination will do). I would have preferred a video of the ā€˜situation’ in your garden/kitchen/fishing trip, but I can’t have everything
You’re gonna be way ahead of us all in the music making dept. when we decide to ā€˜go into the light’…

Great. :person_facepalming:
Another unspecified amount of gigawatt’s used for something that humans do better.
Can’t wait for the bubble to pop. Or for society to run out of power.
Let’s see how ai will solve that.

Ugh! This is a pet peeve of mine. It’s really the lowest level of lyric-writing imaginable. (Btw ā€œShe loves you, yeah, yeah, yeahā€ is much better. At least it doesn’t pretend to rhyme  )

Men at Work had an otherwise pretty good song called Overkill that was marred by this problem, but at least they only used it on every other line in the verses. This ā€œsongā€ ends every freakin’ line with ā€œ-ationā€, verses, pre-choruses, choruses, every line.

It kinda feels like a joke, to be honest. Hey, maybe AI is trolling us: heh, heh, I’ll give them the stupidest lyrics imaginable and see if they like it. Hahahaha!

Fair point, but it deals with the question/ethics of AI in general.
Seeing as Clint went through the process of ā€˜creating’ this song, I find it more useful to try and tease out what I believe is good/worthwhile v undesirable from a musical/creative point of view.
Threads will become quite tedious if there’s always the repeat chorus of ā€œAI is badā€ (even if it is )

Lyric appreciation is by definition subjective. As you point out, many respected artists have indulged in this type of carry-on and some folk like it
One problem with AI is that, because it trawls a sea of pre-recorded material, it only ever produces average/mediocre results. We despise it because it’s not brilliant/novel/exceptional.
However, it is far ā€˜better’ than most people could ever achieve, esp. on a learning website like here.

I’m afraid that title has alrady been claimed by the MASH theme song

Director Robert Altman had two stipulations about the song for composer Johnny Mandel: it had to be called ā€œSuicide Is Painlessā€ and it had to be the ā€œstupidest song ever writtenā€. Altman attempted to write the lyrics himself, but, upon finding it too difficult for his ā€œ45-year-old brainā€ to write something ā€œstupidā€ enough, he gave the task to his 15-year-old-son Michael, who reportedly wrote the lyrics in five minutes… he made only $70,000 for directing the movie, his son earned more than $1 million (Wikipedia)

Allright.
If prompting = ā€œcreatingā€ a song, then to me, there’s no value in it. The algorythm does all the heavy lifting. No human creativity involved. (at least, not much).
And that doesn’t help in finding any musical/creative meaning in this.
Music is something created by real people. Ok, in time we used various electronics to create new sounds and songs, but it was the human that was a the helm.
The human led the creative process. This is done by a machine.
It’s the same as a barrel organ. But even then you had to punch holes in the right places to get a melody.

So was this.
I love it :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I’m not arguing with you about the value of AI.
I am simply trying to identify what I appreciate and what I don’t in this piece of music.
I would have found it easier if Clint had shared more of his thought process, as well as the prompts behind the song.
Hehe, it might even be that controversy/disagreement is the whole point!
I’m not falling into the trap of writing another song about it this time

Lol.

That immediatly reminded me of this here: (no ai there.)

If it was to stirr up controversy/disagreement, he really succeeded there… :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

It’s all in good fun.

I’ve discussed the details of my prompts in other threads, so it would pretty much be lather, rinse, repeat at this point, and not much different than writing any other song (for me). Start with a song in mind, lyrical phrasing, a point of view, along with some musical movement. From there, prompt the AI over multiple takes until you get something that you like.

That said, if it’s AI it is fair to assume that it is all AI, and it is completely fair to automatically not like it.

I do appreciate the listen, your open mindedness, and fair comments.

Even though the negative comments here would never be allowed in any other forum, moderators please allow them to stay. There is some AI bashing here, and I’m not thin-skinned enough to flag the comments or be insulted. It’s important to validate people’s opinions, and I appreciate the listens. LOL

That’s totally fair, and I will respond to you since you have a very good history of creativity. Anyone else offering opinions are free to do so, as all music is subjective. Case in point, huge blowout right now over ā€œBad Bunnyā€, which I have no problem with.

So here’s the inspiration:

I’m just over here having fun. LOL

There are some decent lines in there and some pretty good advice as well. If they are hard to get to, then I’m guilty as charged.

As you say, fine to have a go at AI.
Song/creativity-bashing… v. uncool :face_with_monocle:

I don’t really understand that table, as there are surely many more words that rhyme with be/my/use than Situation?
Anyway the only important thing is:

:+1: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

There was a bit of bad bunny commentary on this side of the pond too, and without delving into politicians, language, race, music, dancing, red, blue & white, (I didn’t hear God being invoked), I note with interest that just about everyone seems happy to have fit young ladies shaking booty for entertainment

I’ll admit that I don’t remember the lyrics and whether they make sense or not. But didn’t the Red Hot Chilli Peppers do the same thing with Californiacation?

I’m not supporting the accuracy of the chart, just toying with the results as a concept.

I do like a good set of rhymes, and when I get stuck sometimes https://www.rhymezone.com/ → Near Rhymes, can unstuck a lyrical hack such as myself. GRIN

I’m not into analysing charts/tables so my opinion is simple. I enjoyed the melody and guitar play. Didn’t like the lyrics. Too many ā€œationsā€.
Good fun though.

Verily I say, there is an orthodoxy herein. Submit to scrutiny thy hand-crafted canticle, halting and crooked, and praise shall be heaped upon thee. To the bosom of the crowd thou shalt be taken. Into the fold wilt thou be welcomed. Yet dally thee with the Algorithm of Intentionality and thy name will be spat upon the sand. A shunning will befall thee and damnation hurled at thy feet. Tread softly, thou children of the lute, for the fellowship of the string be a fickle wonder.
