So, BLIM fellow @Boris1565 and me wanted to apply some things we learned in BLIM while making our own song…
Longer Story
So I asked my BLIM fellow Boris if he was up for a collaboration on a blues song - and he was!
12 bar blues in A - Easy thing?
Well at least, it sets chord progression and sort of frame for the song structure.
So we wanted to use a bass 6, another guitar playing chords, like that shuffle riff for example and of course some soloing that is a major subject in BLIM.
Boris came up with nice Bass 6, then I suggested rhythm guitars and drums which we chose along our way adding further tracks one after another. From the Blues start, the song became more “rocky”. A bass guitar was added (just recently bought one and still have to take some online lessons one day soon, but as it’s like the lower four strings of the guitar - just one octave lower, you can easily have some start with it)
Boris uploaded the bass 6 only ten days ago.
Even if I was a bit overmotivated and and sent stuff his way often a bit too quickly, I hope Boris didn’t feel so much under pressure and Boris’ family will ever forgive me
Along our journey I remembered a lyrics idea I had a few weeks ago for a Blues song I wanted to create and recorded some vocals just to try. As we both liked it, we then formed the structure as to embed the story and vocals and hopefully we left enough room for soloing! And while I have to learn and improve that lead guitar stuff… Boris did it all!
Boris:
- Bass 6 (This was the seed for the song)
- Middle solo
- Long outro solo, idea for the ending
- Lead guitar fills between vocals
Dominique:
- Short intro
- Rhythm guitar - the shuffle riff
- Electric Bass
- Drum track
- Lyrics and vocals
Lyrics
Imtro
Verse 1
So I went to St. Louis
people said don’t go alone
when I left for St. Louis
my friends said Charly, better stay home
I didn’t know nobody there
so I was bound to roam
Verse 2
I barely knew the city
Jammed into a bar and had a drink or two
Then I saw those dressed up ladies - wow!
Blue dress, blue hair, blue lips, blue shoes
“Mister, I’m Annie and this is Betty”
“Nice to meet you, Annie and Betty Blue!”
Solo
Verse 3
We had a great time together
they showed me the best places they knew
Then they led me to buy new clothes
where they told me what to choose
So - there we were together,
Annie and Betty and Charly Blue
Verse 4
Now on the wall above my bed
there’s this image of us three in blue
And I think back of St. Louis
every time I wear my blue suede shoes
I’ll always remember Annie and Betty
and when we were the St. Louis Blues
Outro
Now - thank you Boris for that really easy and nice cooperation. It was your first and you did great!
PS. forgot to say: If there’s any critique you have to offer, we’re really glad to hear it!
