I would like to ask if there is anyone doing trills on acoustic guitar and if there are some “magic secrets” about this technique.
If I understand it right its playing first note with pick/finger and then repeat hammer on and pull off? I just found only one Justins old video…
I can remember I was learning Shallow (Lady Gaga) and there is part in D chord where you hammer on and pull off just once. Is it trill too?
I really like “Nobody knows you when you are down and out” and Paul Davids is doing here really awesome trill and I just love it. So I am trying to find techniques I need to learn before I jump for this “big fish”.
Last words: Hammer on and pull of is not unknown to me and I am using it in my fingerstyle playing.
Justins 1 minute old video:
Justin guitar Shallow its in first 8 seconds of video:
The trill I am looking for, its on 12 seconds on the beginning of video:
@Fast-Eddie Thanks for sharing. I think this is the technique… seems like it has roots on electric guitar where metal guys type like mad? (not trying to insult )
When I think about that… I can remember I saw Justin Johnson is doing that. He is playing blues mainly, so I think its bluesey thing too.
Steve Hackett of Genesis was probably the first “big name” guitar player who used tapping as a more-or-less regular technique in his playing. But he was not a metal player per se.
Then there’s the Chapman Stick which is probably the most famous string/fretted instrument whose dominant playing technique is tapping. Alphonso Johnson and Tony Levin are its best-known users.
The problem here is Paul isn’t using tapping he’s using trills which are hammer-ons
@Carreta your over thinking the technique. Learn how to do hammer-ons and pull-offs and go from there. Watch what Paul is doing when he plays the trills, he’s just hammering on repeatedly.
In the context of your post, I was looking to find that teenage finger tapping teenage girl talent I had seen on youtube years ago - I couldn’t find her anymore, but then was reminded Roy Smeck.
As a fingerpicker, you’ll probably be impressed (and amused) by his technique… https://youtu.be/DR3tGulLv88?feature=shared
Yes, hammer-ons like stitch says on the “Nobody knows you…”
I’ll have to refresh that too, while I learned the song from Justin’s video.
@stitch Overthinking… yeah… that is something really known to me.
I just wanted to make sure if I understand it correct, I thought it is just rapid hammer on and pull off. Only in context before I know how this technique is named… I though they are doing some extra pressure vibrato. Like Justin Johnson with his really long fingers doing this like butter.
@domi7 This is really interesting… so many techniques for little uke. I could not even see the pattern of some parts how fast it was.
I really like this comment:
