The saddles were worn out on my FR Hot Rod Special so I upgraded to an Official FR.
The swap seemed pretty scary and was slow going because I was being so cautious, but it was really just a couple of screws to change and the new trem system went right in, no sweat. Fit pretty much the same except the sustain block is bigger and the back cover plate baaaaarely closes without the springs touching the plate, there’s literally only a hair’s width of clearance.
I kept the same locking nut, however I did swap out the top clamp blocks simply because I bought them and didn’t want to return them. Plus I don’t know what the old ones were made of, so they couldve been a downgrade. The string retainer, claw and springs didn’t need an upgrade so I kept the same ones.
The scariest part, and I felt pretty intimidated, was the thought of having to do the setup afterwards, because pretty much everything was going to need adjusting. But it actually wasn’t bad at all. The truss rod didn’t need adjusting. I was able to get the perfect float as I had before. My action turned out perfect. The bridge height did take a bit of adjusting because I swapped those posts, so that and intonation were the most time consuming parts.
Other than my back hurting from leaning over the table and straining my eyes from not wearing my glasses, it wasn’t that bad. Fun, even. Kind of. I followed a good, thorough video on a complete setup on a Floyd Rose, and I learned a lot. I think I could prob do my own simple setups and adjustments now, and save trips to the guitar tech for when something goes pretty wrong.
