I’ve said enough about this one in the intro. Feedback is welcome.
Congrats on that first shared recording, Simon. Such a great song.
Your play looked smooth, relaxed. Mostly kept the hand moving which is good.
For future, I’d suggest turning the backing down a little softer relative to your guitar.
Hi Simon,
I read your first video above from David, but that is not entirely correct , what I would also like to say is that most of the time you do not continue with strumming and hold back a lot ,that that is where the focus should now be … the chord changes often go well and you look relaxed and you also look relaxed standing so go on with that ,and have fun
Greetings,Rogier
Well played, Simon, and congratulations on recording your performance.
Let’s remember that this is is your first time sharing a recording; a huge milestone in itself and on you produced a success.
Comments on your strumming and audio balance are fair and constructive; neither an area of competence for which I am remotely qualified.
Onwards and upwards and keep it fun …
Hi Simon, nice confident start. Well done. I agree with comments on strumming and your hand movement.
Great job Simon
Mick
Great job Simon. I love this song and that whole album by David Gray. My only observation was about keeping your strumming hand moving but others have already pointed that out. Keep them coming!
Hello Simon, I enjoyed full song. Thank you for this share, cant wait for you next songs.
Hey @simon_plays_bass I agree with @Eddie_09 I love this song and whole Whiteladder album. I consider it to be a classic.
Looking forward to hearing more.
Well done on posting your first AVoYP Simon. (although I thought you’d posted a Green Day song somewhere). Good job. I’m sure more will follow soon.
In addition to the strumming and audio balance which the others have covered, the sync on your playing and the backing track seemed out.
Thanks everyone for the positive comments and constructive feedback.
@DavidP @Elixir1253 as @sairfingers and @roger_holland noted - it is my second recording. The previous one was “Time of your Life ( Good Riddance)”by Green Day. I did that with the username SimonPlaysBass. I changed the username to underscores, to have the same one as my instagram account which doesn’t seem to like capital letters.
Re the backing track level vs guitar, it sounds ok in my headphones. However I did turn the input gain on the guitar down a bit and did some eq on the preamp as the low G (Ab as I was on capo 1) sounded really loud compared to the backing track and the rest of the strings. I actually did an earlier take in which my playing was ok (no chord changes missed, strumming okayish etc) but the low G was way too loud. I’m not sure if it is my playing or something in the preamp or later in the signal chain. I’ve always thought the low E string sounded a bit weak on that guitar, possibly because I usually played without a pick. Anyway, your comments on volume are well received and I’ll bear it in mind going forward.
I changed the tag on the first recording to the new user name so that a search on your current will find both.
