Anyone tried these new Martin Titanium strings? Wow… $40.00 US. ??? Do they install themselves and clean themselves after playing? Are they that much better in sound? I’m having a hard time coming to grips with the cost. Has anyone tried these ?
uh oh for an acoustic right. they would have to last what 4x the length of time of a normal set?
Interesting. A brief lookup fonds a favorable thread on the Acoustic Guitar Forum.
Round core, low ish tension for gauge, very warm tone (so make sure that is what you want) and good longevity. Up to a year on guitars played far more hours than mine, most likely.
Not a bad deal really, unless you like trying different string frequently. I have Thomastik Plectrums (11s) on my steel string and Thomastik JP Folk on my Flamenco. Both run $25-$30 USD, but I love them and they are still going strong at 6 months.
The Martin titanium may be a good fit for my Steel String. I like warm round core Monels and these should be similar. I probably have another 6 months on the Plectrums and three sets of Curt Mangan Monels, to run through, so maybe Martin will have titanium’s back in stock when I want to try them in 2-3 years…
Maybe it’s just me but hard strings on soft frets seems like a fast way to an early refret.
Mêh.
I’m happy with my D’addario’s on both electric and accoustics…
I’ll have to look into it it but in my experience titanium is softer than stainless steel. It’s quite easy to scratch. Do you have information on the hardness of these strings?
The martin plain strings are stainless steel and the wrapped strings have core of titanium wrapped with nickel.
"The Core
The name says it all! Martin’s Titanium Core strings use true titanium for the core wire of this new breed of strings. And you can only get them from Martin! The Titanium core wire is round, not hex, and titanium is more flexible than steel, providing a very comfortable playing experience while remaining strong and durable. The plain strings are also unique to this product, as they are cryogenically treated stainless steel. The cryogenic treatment protects the string and brings out more brilliance in the stainless steel, while the stainless steel itself provides enhanced flexibility and comfort.
The Wrap
Martin’s uses nickel to wrap the Titanium strings. Nickel is naturally corrosion-resistant and holds its tone for a very long time. The nickel and titanium work together to provide the ultimate corrosion-free string."
