is there anyone else having that classic Traveler Guitar model where the strings run over those wheels to land in standard tuners… and with a bridge like in an acoustic?
Like this:
I just ordered one and mine had 2 flaws - one serious - Intonation wasn’t alright, then the low E string made a rattling/vibrating noise.
I have a slightly different model with a magnetic pickup in addition. It was appealing to me to have a travel guitar that would fit in the trunk or wherever and still have an acoustic + an electric sound with me. AND - an electric with an acoustic specs fretboard, namely lower, smaller frets and 44,5mm nut width - yay!
As it was the last model at a well reduced price, I wanted to keep it, not send it back, knowing I could fix the issues.
I find it a bit funny that everything is just screwed, nothing glued - even bridge to body, but that makes the fixing easier!
Sorry - now I am only coming to the question I wanted to ask: If anyone of you has such a guitar or had played it in the past, did you have intonation problems as well?
Because, I don’t find it a good idea that all the strings lie on the bridge inlay at the front edge - so unlike every normal acoustic bridge inlay, there’s a compromise of intonation anyway. Not a really good design, but I’ll file it in addition to slightly offsetting the bridge and should have good intonation in the end.
What was your experience with this type of guitar?
I do not own such a guitar, but very interesting that seems to be very lightweight. I scanned trough a few online customer reviews, and I haven’t seen that many mentioned intonation problems or vibrating noises. Just a tip: since you have ordered it online, at least one retailers that I know (the one near Nuremberg) offer to pay you back if have it repaired at a local luthier. They just need a cost estimate beforehand. Maybe worth trying.
Hi Franz, thank you for the hint! Very good to know!
Is that the one with the 70 years birthday this year? That’s where I ordered it! I had planned to send them a video and do measurements or photos, but in the end I let the 30 days pass… No, I am going to fix it alone, it will be quite easy and I love knowing my instrument well and learning things!
That’s the one. A big music store in a small village in the middle of nowhere
I wonder if they require measurements or photos at all, because they are very service oriented. I would start the request with a plain email or a phonecall. Good luck again!
