Traveler~~May 2025: Sympathy For The Devil--The Rolling Stones

Heya all!

Happy Spring to all of you! I started working on this tune this week. It is far from a finished product, but I wanted to share my progress. I hope that this month finds you all well and that you like my initial recording of this classic rock song!

As always, any feedback is helpful!

Rock on!

Well played and performed. Your delivery was better from c. 2:10 when your playing and singing became slightly less forced, less urgent. Great to hear another of your songs / covers.

I agree :100: @beejay56 !! I think that I just needs more practice in general, but I’ll keep working on this one!

Rock on :sign_of_the_horns:

Thank you very much @Willsie !! It needs some work still but I think that I could see myself playing it live within a month :+1:

And good playing too.

Thank you very much @MyDogsGotNoNose !! It needs a polish but it’s a fun song to play!

Very Good Travis!
Specially for only being into it for a week.
By the time you get to the finished product, you’ll be sounding like the stones,

I find it hard to crateak others as I don’t want to insult anyone.

1st thing that stands out to me is your guitar sounds ‘to me’ like it’s out of tune. Not the open chords but the fretted ones. I’m guessin the B string. I play a tune where the fretted B stands out as out of tune. My remedy was tune to B open. fret C, D, C#, etc. Adjust tuning to where the fretted note is in tune. Then try open again. It may be flat or sharp. Go back and forth finding the happy medium. And that may mean open is slightly out of tune. But using my ears I find where it sounds best and mostly not out of tune. To me, this is the thing that stands out most to me as for something that could be improved. Easy fix…

Maybe get one of the pfft screens for your mic. P’s and B’s can go pfft when sung into a mic. I got me one of them screens and it seems to help. Sorry, don’t know what them screens are called. Made out of foam rubber, goes over the screen on the mic.

I don’t know how your recording, but it sounds like it’s into clip to me, a shade loud. Maybe pull the vol. back while recording? Or if ya got a DAW, adj. gain down? Gain, not vol. 2 different things in a DAW.

Perhaps bring the vol. of the guitar up? I can’t tell if your guitar is plugged in or just being picked up by your mic. Sounds like picked up by the mic to me. Maybe plug the guitar in or put a mic in ft. of the guitar.

All in all. For a week in. Your doing great man. I wondered how you were gonna pull that tune off by yourself. Lot’s of music going on in that song. Specially the drums setting the rhythm. Ya for sure got the feel across for the song and to me that’s important in that song in particular.

Liked your singing. It fit’s great with that song

All in all, a week in. Giving a few more try’s, you’ll be performing that live real soon it sounds like to me.

Hope I wasn’t offensive in my comments. I hate to judge others and would rather keep my keyboard silent that say anything negative. But it sounded like ya wanted feedback and only being a week in, I’d be feeling and asking the same thing. So I comment…

Great song to do man. I’m actually kinda amazed you got it as well as it is right now. Missing the drums, backup vocals seems it’d be real hard to do. But you got the feel across. The feel of that song is important imho.

Rock On! Yer well on your way it seems to me. Besides my comments are mostly on physical things, not skill things. Ya got the skill it seems to me.
fwiw, that’s not a song I’d try to cover by myself. I don’t think I could pull it off.

Oh, I dig your Alverez! Beautiful guitar man. I could be prejudice though, I got a Alverez too…

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for all of your feedback @HappyCat !!

Nothing you said was offensive, and in fact, it was exactly what anybody should be looking for! You left a ton of food for thought and I’ll reflect on all of it.

After another listen, I’m not too worried about the tuning that you mentioned. I think that the guitar was just a little bit out of tune in general. I’m still trying to be better about tuning consistently. What I notice supplemental to your comments was my B Chords are not always clean. To my ear, that’s where I noticed the biggest tuning flaws.

I do have a couple of pop filters. I actually had one actually over the screen of my mic and I just took it off because it was pretty beat up. That’s a great idea.

I do love this Alvarez. I have other guitars that sound better but this is my beater—the one that I play on the most! Because of that, it could probably use a tune up.

Thank you for all of your opinions!
