It has been a while since I posted AVOYP.
I recently pulled out of a packed-away box (packed away and almost forgotten) my Trio+.
I had a little spare time today as a couple of students were unable to attend their lessons so I decided to give myself a little bit of play time.
I came up with this.
There are three parts, arranged in approximate sequence of intro-verse-chorus-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-chorus-outro.
This is simply fed direct from the Trio+ to Audacity, via a mixer / interface, with only fade in and fade out added as post-production in that DAW. No other fiddling with knobs once sent.
For some reason there’s a click of corruption part way through. Ho-hum.

Thanks @Jenndye429 it was a blast. I love it when the creative moment comes, the vibe is right and something comes of just playing and having fun.
I like the bridge too but not the transition to it which is a bit iffy.
I might have to make more play time for myself. It’s good for the soul.

It’s a pity that students have to drop out to give you some playing time, then you’re much too busy. Hopefully you’ve now got the hang of it and will make more time to play the guitar. Much more fun than sitting behind a computer

Great rhythm! And while my coffee is still brewing early in the morning the overall character of your song energizes nicely and makes my day brighter in spite of the weather I can imagine you had a lot of fun playing and recording it.

That guitar sound reminded me of some Mike Oldfield album. I really enjoyed it and with that chorus you could make it the next hit!

I’m not crazy about the synth sound (what pedal setting is that?) and would like to hear what it sounds like with a more conventional guitar sound.

What’s the last dissonant chord of the bridge- something diminished?
It reminds me of some easy going pop song, lovely melody and rhythm. I am sure you had a lot of fun playing this. I had no idea what trio+ was, had to google it. It is very interesting.

Honestly, the playing was technically demanding, I just added multiple layers with the looper and used a bit of music knowledge to play different parts and add twin-guitar harmonies.
Bright verse / chorus sections with a slightly sombre bridge to tone it down just a notch.
BUT, BUT … it sounds like Mike Oldfield for goodness sake!! haha
I was using Zoom G3 multi-fx and just added a Boost pedal for the lead harmony parts. All with acoustic.
Ooh. Good man yourself. Transcribing for the fun of it.
And I must remember that you use lower case letters for minor (I made that mistake with one of your analyses previously).

The first time through I played the minor v chord of Bm as a dominant 7 F#7 chord. That was a deliberate and conscious choice.
The second time through I added a little twist. F#7 was replaced by C7. I simply arrived there by luck and trying something out - namely, holding the C (instead of moving to D) and changing it to a C7.
There was no conscious calculation or music-theory or reasoning. I just tried it and thought it had a sound that I liked, a different way of creating a sound leading back to the G chord that opens the chorus.
Which is weird. Because C7 should, by rights, push to F. But now you have forced me to look at it - for which, thank you - I can’t help but notice their directly opposite positions on the Circle of Fifths. F#7 and C7 - aha. A tritone substitution.
In the lead guitar part I did consciously and deliberately target ending on the Bb note (found in the C7) because it is a leading tone to the B of the G chord coming next up in the chorus. I did at least have that in my thoughts.
But - the bottom line is that the entire thing was quite spontaneous. I knew I wanted something in the key of G using G, C, D and another chord. The muse took me.
Very nice Richard, in my hands my Trio+ will not sound like that. I have been using mine again recently, and having fun with it. I certainly need to give it more love.
Thanks Boris. The Trio+ is an amazing tool. I use the optional FS3X footswitch which makes it even better and easier to use as a desktop device.
I will be using it live during my vintage club session on Monday. Here’s hoping it is kind to me!

That was a fun piece Richard, most enjoyable. I also got a bit of a Mike Oldfield vibe from the guitar tone. Perhaps the guitar solo part from Moonlight Shadow. Then on a second listen I got the vibe from the Top Gear theme music Jessica.
Anyway, as a few others have said it’s encouraged me to plug in my Trio+ next practise session, so thanks for that.
