Try to find a strumming pattern for Beth - Kiss

Hello everyone,

I started playing from scratch using this website for 6 months. Enjoying the journey so far !
I love Beth from Kiss in acoustic guitar and I’l trying to find a suitable strumming pattern for it.
I saw some youtube vidéo but it’s hard for me to read the pattern used in a vidéo.

Welcome to JustinGuitar and this Community.
6 months in you have hopefully learned at least a few approaches to strumming songs, including Old Faithful.
When you’re learning a new song, start simple to get the chord changes and song structure learned. One, two or four down strums per bar. Then begin to try a more involved rhythm for strumming, including old faithful.
I am unfamiliar with the song but just watched an unplugged version. I think it is mostly 8ths but with picking of strings within chords, not full on big chord strumming. However, you can take it to basic and simple strumming.
Try:
1 _ 2 & 3 & 4 _ (D _ D U D U D _)
or
1 & 2 _ 3 & 4 _ (D U D _ D U D _)

If they work - great. If you feel you’d like to vary a little then do so.

Hi there. Let me know if you find one that works well. This song is harder than it looks because there are lots of quick changes. I tried it about 2 years ago and it didn’t go well. There’s a gut called Party Marty Easy guitar tunes who gives a good lesson. I don’t necessarily agree with his chord choices though.

Great advice especially for someone in their first year. Old faithful works for a lot of songs. Pay attention in another year or two or more and if all your songs sort of sound the sameish, then work on other strumming patterns as well.

My approach to figuring out a strumming pattern is to hum the rhythm of the song and usually a usable pattern becomes obvious. I’ve also used a voice recording app on my phone to record me speaking / humming the rhythm and then play it back on loop while I match my strumming with mutes strings to it
