Tuning to open g

please clarify open g tuning. i’ve seen ggdgbd and dgdgbd.

which is correct (or are they both acceptable) and why do tutors differ in what they tell you the tuning is?

or is it just a simple case of ‘depends what you’re playing’?

thanks in advance.

Ooen G is DGDGBD. People who play it GGDGBG do because Keith Richard took the low E string off of his guitar so if you’re strumming Stones songs and hit the low D it doesn’t sound very good so instead of taking it off or muting it they tune it to G.
I prefer to just mute it with my thumb.
