Type of Capo question

Last night a a live country music show, the rhythm guitartist had a capo that stayed on the neck all the time and he just slid it along the neck with what looked like just his index finger. He might have been unlocking it with his thumb at the back of the neck, but I couldn’t be sure.

Anyone out there with the idea of what capo was used. At the moment I use the normal type with the big handle that you squeeze to release and then grip. With moving the capo mid song to change key, this can be a lot slower than he was moving his capo.

Thanks in advance.
Tony

Perhaps you mean some of the G7th capo series?

I have a copuple of Performance 2 and 3’s and they’s my favourite because you can, if you’re handy enough, apply the tension you want. Mist of all, they are elegant, never in the way and subtle.

Thanks @LievenDV, I emailed the group, but not really expecting an answer, but I have just had a lovely email back from them. It is a Roller Capo he uses. I have never heard of that before, so going to get one and see how I get on with it.

For some reason country and bluegrass people like Paige Capos

Thanks @stitch I have seen those, but again you have to ‘release’ the tension before moving them. I just liked the way he moved the capo just by sliding it to the next position with his index finger.

Probably one of these - GLIDER GLX1 CAPO | Strings & Things

Hi @DarrellW , that’s the one. Looking forward to trying it out.

I might get one myself, it might be a good option for changing from the Drop tuning I occasionally play with to get it up to normal pitch, it’s probably quicker and less likely to throw up out of tune problems.
I’ve got one of my guitars on 13/64’s and tuned down to drop A!

@Socio I bought a cheap version to try it out and yes it is as good as it appears on the video. I will now have to by the Glider as the cheap one has a hard roller which isn’t as good.

Once I have that capo, will it make me play as well as the guitarist in the video?

But of course!!!
C’mon Tony!
Don’t you find that to be true with all of your gear purchases? You buy it… it gets set up in your home… YOU MAGICALLY HAVE THE ABILITY TO PERFORM!!!

I hadn’t seen those; looks pretty slick. And perfect to put on my Christmas list (family always complains they don’t know what to get me – this is something I’d actually use and isn’t too expensive).

Got mine from the store of the famous river!
In short it’s rather nice, well made and easy to use plus it doesn’t throw the tuning out - if you often use a Capo and use it to change to make certain songs easier to play get one, you’ll definitely not regret it!

Ok, seeing that in action is cooler than I thought. Added to my wishlist…
