Ultra beginner Level - 1st Video

Morning Richard

Thats grear insignt many thanks.

yes the change in strumming pattern was deliberate, it was in my mind

D_ DU_UD_

and

D_DUDUD_

although that may not have been what actually happened, a consistent pattern I feel fairly happy with and it stays consistent, changing it up invariably causes it to not always work just yet.

I can just about do three patterns over three chords but its a bt rough so tend to stick to two over two till I master it everytime, I can mix it between A, D & E, but again its taking more practice, not good enough for a video yet

What I have noticed is sometime I can pick up the guitar and work woth the metronone faultlessly but on the next day I have no rhythm at all and place the guitar back on the wall feeling a little miffed and put it down to a NON playing guitar day haha.

Thanks

Addendum

Yes I am aware my thumb is doing bad stuff, I get pain in my wrist and lower arm trying to keep them square on to the guitar neck, I do try but it lapses and the thurmb starts to curl over with it.

I can certainly try and a mute the loe E string on the Am Chord

Perhaps after some practice I will come back on this thread with an improved video.

Video 2 @ Beginners Grade 1 - Module 6 - Basic Strumming

Hello again folks, I have been quietly in my spare time, practicing with my strumming.

I have progressed from Video 1 above, well it feels that way to me.

Mad World - 4 Chords in the bag.

Happy for constructive advice, be gentle, that said I wish to learn and Justin Guitar is my ONLY reference for this.

Kind thanks Simon

You’re doing great Simon - I do miss the old scholl metronome that you had in the first couple of videos! That was cool.

Looks like you’re taking it seriously - and it’s paying off - super consistent strumming and chord changes looking smooth! Well done!

You are doing really well. Chords sound good (no buzzing). Accurate tempo. Well played.

Hey Simon!
Well done… especially for someone so early in the Journey to play a song that’s in time & recognizable just by the chords (without accompanying singing)!!!

I kinda chuckled when I saw your guitar ā€œinventoryā€ā€¦ I have way too many guitars :guitar: if you factor in my skillset & playing ability! I look at it like this, though…
I spent money on gear, now it inspires me to get good enough to justify everything I have!!! :joy:

Have Fun!!!

Thanks justin, yea I am really into it now and practice over fours days a week then take a break till the following week, I am really enjoying it.

The turning point was buying the app for my tablet which meant finally I was playing along with songs rather than just learning.

The Troggs, the Cult (a fave band) , Offspring, stuff that i like really made all the difference, this combined with a Spark 2 amp which allows me to mimic the sound of bands I like without buying numerous pedals and getting headaches was a game changer.

Practice for 30 then play for 20 if my motto at this point

Appreciate the comment, thankyou

Yaaay, pleased to hesar I am on the right track, I can hear I drop the tempo a couple of times watching the video back, but I am my own worst critic and that helps to learn

No one want to hear my vocal chords haha so I need it to sound recognisable lol

OMG the inverntory, this video does not show it all, I would be a little embarrased to show the collection, amps, acoustics and electrics, walls filled with printed off and laminated strumming patterns, chords basic musc theory, its my guitar room, actually its my work room as I work from homne but I am always surrounded by Guitar stuff and when work goeds quiet I am watching guitar videos, practicing and always fit in a small play in the afternoon around work stuff, really enjoying it and in fact dropped a couple of other hobbies so as to concentrat on the one, much better for me.

The gear does inspire and it is great having a £99 guitar but you can really tell the difference with some nicer gear for sure, definately inspires.

I enjoy the history, the woods, the smells and of course the difference in sounds and playability with different types of necks etc.

Such a great hobby, wish I started back in the day, I’ll be a half decent player in my 70s

You’re doing great! I don’t think I was that smooth in your time frame. And no need for any apologies! You can be confident on where you are now.

I no longer enjoy the luxury of working from home but at least I have my own office…

…this is my ā€œGuitar Cornerā€! The wall hanger is reserved for the ā€œGuitar of the Weekā€ & the axe :guitar: hanging there rotates weekly… the strat, classical, 12 string, amp & pedalboards reside here 24/7!

Whenever I have a few free minutes I strum a bit, noodle or play/practice scales!

If I’m the last one in the office, the amp gets plugged into & cranked!!! :smiling_face_with_horns:

Makes my workday more bearable!

I think you’re doing great. Great practice routine. I really like your studio too! And that metronome in your earlier videos had me tapping my foot too!

Thankyou for the comment, i dont hang off them but they really do help with encouragement

The tik tokker seems really populer for my videos, i will have to make an effort and get it back in for another one soon

Thankyou

These are great.
It really shows that your disciplined approach is working well.

Thanks i try really hard, I do suffer with some cognitive issues which can really interfere, I have just uploaded another video to show the ā€˜real world’ life of me learning guitar.

Hopefully others who also struggle quietly that it can be very common place, some days it just does not happen, even if you have done it correctly before…

A difficult day.

I am sure we all have them, I just had two weeks off due to struggling with the heat we have been having and my return to just the simplest of things that I have done before, just fell apart…

Its normal, I think haha
