Vanessa BLIM-2 Before and After

Hello Friends!!!

What a journey has been this 6 months. I took my time to watch again all the videos that I made and I can’t believe all the achievements that I made :open_mouth:

I wanted to tell you my story: I started playing guitar in 2022 online, but didn’t make any progress in that time and actually felt really lost, I lit almost quit, because I didn’t know were to start.

The next video was my very first recording at that time. (fun fact I made a lot of mistakes and record that video over and over again haha, my poor son was so bored, he was in charge of the percusion and he end up playing almost with his head haha  )

In 2023 I was so unmotivated with playing guitar, so one day I went to youtube and found one of the justin´s video lessons and I was surprised with his teaching methods, so in August 2023 I sign up in justinguitar page and started the beginner lessons, start from scratch. Complete all 3 beginner modules and the sos strumming course, so of course in 2025 I ended up enrolled in BLIM course ( I had my doubts in that time about if I was going to be able to made any progress because I felt like I needed more experience with guitar playing )

I have no idea about blues at all (maybe I was familiar with some of the BB king songs, and Johnny B Goode song), but at the start of BLIM I find out all this amazing playlist and blues music, I started to listening to SRV, Freddie King, T-Bone Walker. I felt like a was a teenager again discovering new music.

This was my first recording in BLIM for the prep module, trying to do a solo:

And by comparison this is a video that I recorded today, playing the unit 6 licks in the medley in full speed. I can’t believe how much improvement I made in this 6 months with good education can do wonders

I am so happy with the results of this course, was way more than I expected, from justin explaining every topic, the course material, the amazing community, the tips of Richard and Dave. As I said in the beginning I thought that I was way too beginner to made this but the way the material is structured made really easy for me to learn and an excellent tool as a first approach from blues, and lit opened the doors for a more skilled me, and made mayor improvement in every aspect of my guitar playing, not just for blues. I had so many songs and solos that couldn’t play before blim and now its like I gain a super power to achieve it.

Bonus: Here is a recording of the song I wish you were here (and the little solo)

Thats such an awesome story. I am glad we got to take the class togeather and work togeather during it some. You really have advanced your guitar playing a ton, Its really amazing. I love that everyone who kept active and committed to posting videos reciving that open feedback, have all shown to have improved with such leaps and bound. There is no question of it.

I am super stoked for you and the rest of the crew. Hard work pays off.

Great Job with the Acoustic too. This might be the first time I have seen you play that actually. Again great work during the 6 BLIM month class.

Hey Vanessa,

A great read and listen.
Your improvement is marked and significant. Congratulations. You’ve obviously put the work in.

Nice bonus with Wish You Were Here. It is a deceptively difficult tune to master, and you well on your way with it. Its a great ‘teaching’ tune.

Lookin forward to some more bluesy tunes…:+1:

Cheers, Shane

Way to go Vanessa. I really do think yours was one of the true success stories of BLIM 2 in terms of where you started out and where you ended up. There’s many years of guitar playing ahead of you and you’re going to go from strength to strength. The U6 video shows how far you’ve come with your blues techniques and I still really love your Wish You Were Here. It’s better than many I’ve heard and ably demonstrates what a well rounded guitarist you are becoming.

Great videos Vanessa and super progress. I love your unit 6 medley - getting it to sound musical without a backing track is fabulous.

Great story Vanessa, you should be proud of your journey so far, you have made more progress than I ever did in the 1st few years, like you say though once you find tuition that motivates you the journey begins, keep up the good work :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Vanessa,

Thank you for posting those videos of your progress. It’s very motivating for me to see that. I started learning the guitar with Justin’s course around the same time you say that you discovered Justin’s lessons. So I’ve been playing around the same amount of time as you. I’ve been going slower in the course than you and I’ve done Grade 1 and almost all of 2, plus the strumming course and some theory. I have been thinking about doing BLIM in the future when I finish Grade 3. However, with Wish you were here I’m about about the same level as you, so I might enroll in the BLIM a bit sooner than I originally intended.

It’s really great to see your progress in the videos and that following the Blues Immersion course has opened up a new world of music for you. I also don’t know anything about Blues music at all but I’m sure that the course also opens up lots of new avenues to also apply the techniques in other types of music too, especially rock.

Thanks again for posting the videos of your progress. That’s a cool guitar in that 3rd video (the red epiphone).

Best, Ian
