I M NOT SURE IF IM UPLOADING TO THE A VEDIO YOU PLAYING SECTION here is the link of the vedio
please tell me what should i do to improve
current status- can play single note nursery rhythms by ear , can play bare chords 70% time without eror , can play some stretchy songs
but i don’t know what to do next what to practice im so lost and its a shame for me that currently i can’t afford a electric guitar but i believe acoustic its also pretty good
and im also so sorry for the unprofessional setup as my home is under construction
Hi Ayus,
I see and hear some very nice techniques and I am convinced that you have what it takes to become a great guitar player…
Based on your words in your introduction and given how far you are in the course, the next question. How many complete songs can you play? and if you post one soon it’s a good idea to put both your fretting hand and your fingerpicking hand on camera for the best feedback… have fun and don’t forget to learn and record complete songs … and If the songs only have rhythm guitar and verses and are long and without a backing track, then it is a good idea to post shortened versions here… just take a look in the AVOYP section to see how we do it… in all dozens variations
I look forward to see more of you grow, in play and …in video recording you are close and way way better than my first post…
Well done Ayush, I thought the short “demos” were sounding like very articulate and tunefull fingerpicking.
Adding to Rogier’s supportive words, I am going to comment on your posture. I think over time your body and playing progress will suffer if you always play sitting cross-legged; although perhaps it was just for this video. To me your fretting hand seemed to be doing a lot of work. I could also see you moving the guitar around and shifting the capo up the neck, which came across to me as you trying to find a comfortable position to play.
There’s nothing wrong with performing a few songs sitting like that, but practise and progress will be more productive with a more ‘formal’ sitting or standing playing position.
Listening to your AVYOP I think you have a very promising future playing guitar and look forward to hearing more.
Work through Justin Guitar lessons starting at Module 1. Also the JG song list, grades each song in terms of ‘play grade’; there’s plenty of choce so pick out some you would like to learn.
Good job, I can see you were excited to get it done. You have a fair amount of the basic skil thats great. So, like Roger said. Spend some time going through some of the members AVOYPs and see what they do for a submission for a total song. I would say, you sound about grade 3ish or so. Maybe pick a couple of grade 2 or 3 songs that you really like and learn them start to finish. With all the timing. Get in a regular chair so you can tap ypur foot to the beat. Pick one song that has a 4/4 beat and maybe another that 6/8, 3/4 or 5/7. Or you could even choose a level one song and learn that with all the little additions that Justin does at the end that rally make it special. The sus additions and embelishments.
One song per video. Dont rush. Last week I spend all day trying to record a single song vocals and playing. Literally all day. When I did get to a point I felt good. Real life suddenly happened and I still have not had a chance to move it over to computer and upload it to You tube.
I cant tell you exactly what song or what to do next thats an individual thing but my advice would be base on the following question.
Have you been using Justins pratice assistant? As you go through the lessons build that up and use it. If you have great, keep working on what justin has you doing that you need work on. If you have not then set it up
You are doing fine. Its not a race, keep your head up.
Edit, you should absolutly be doing the lessons. That was a given. Great point guys and gals.
Hi Auysh. Lots of good advice given by others in the previous posts. Follow the JG course. Learn full songs.
I’ve got a question for you. Why are you using a capo? People usually use a capo to change the key to suit their voice. Other than in the final bit of your video you were making things difficult for yourself by using a capo and playing up the neck where the frets are closer together and there’s less space for your fingers.
Plenty of good advice above Ayush and you definitely have the skills to move forward. It’s already been said but learn songs (as many as you can) and as varied as you can. That’s the best way to pick up different skills and techniques. I agree with @sairfingers that there is no need to use a capo unless you trying to find the key to suit your voice.
Nice playing Ayush. imho, you’ve for sure got the basics down it sounds like to me.
Agreed w/ others. Find a song to play that you like.
As for the capo.
I think, play it like you feel it. If ya feel like a capo, just do it.
But ‘myself’, I’ve found that when I apply a capo, my tuning may be effected by placing the capo in place. Like it, the capo, puts me out of tune with my guitar itself. I can hear that for sure at first strum then when ya move the capo the first time tuning gets better. Tuning seems best in your video when ya go to w/o capo imho.
Sometimes I find if I release the capo and reapply, the tuning will be better.
On the other hand, if I’m playing a song that uses a capo. I’ll put the capo in place, adjusting for best tuning (re applying the capo), then, retune the guitar with the capo in place. My sound (tuning wise) is always better when I adj. tuning after capo placement. I also find I need to tune up w/capo in place near everytime. I suppose it could just be me, but it may not be just me too.
Just food for thought.
fwiw, I think playing with a capo can make it a shade easier to play. Fretting notes that is. Not sure why I feel that way though.
