I am hosting the next Vintage Club on Monday 12 May at 7pm UK time.
The session will be an introduction to open tuning on guitar.
It will be accessible and relevant to all ability levels.
You will simply need to bring your guitar, a tuner and an openness to the new possibilities and sounds that re-tuning your guitar can provide.
If you wish to do a little preparation in advance, three things could be useful.
1] Learn the major scale formula (tone, tone, semitone, tone, tone, tone, semitone).
2] Try to find and play the major scale (do re mi fa so la ti do) from one or more of the open strings - A major scale starting on A string, D major scale starting on D string etc.
3] Learn that major chords are root - major 3rd - 5th and minor chords are root - minor 3rd (b3) - 5th.
If Richard plays an Ella Fitzgerald piece real loud in the class, will the glass in your hand shatter? [shoulda read to the end of the thread before replying…]
Monday 5th May is the May Day holiday weekend in the UK. Perhaps elsewhere too. I would like to reschedule this club and host a week later on Monday 12th May. I have messaged Fanny @FannyJustinGuitar to arrange this.
This is the second time a holiday Monday has caught me out this year. Mea culpa. Can I put it down to old age, forgetfulness? I am clocking on a bit … with a big birthday coming at the end of this month.
A thousand pardons and the biggest, humblest apologies.
No worries,
I had been looking forward to a relaxing hour of creating imaginative guitar sounds with the gang after a typical exhausting Bank Holiday May Day schedule of competitive Cheese Rolling, Bog Snorkling and Turnip Weaving
