Vintage Club #26 with Richard | Using Guitar Pro software

Please accept my apologies that I did not post a topic in advance of this session due to me taking a holiday.

The session was live streamed on Monday June 30 and the recording is available here. https://www.youtube.com/live/MkJlMpz6GtQ?si=vtoZey9w_9wARsgw

Many thanks to all who attended and engaged in the lively chat.

There are a few questions that remain to be fully answered - I will return in due course to address those.

There was so much more I could have covered but time ran out unfortunately. Perhaps I could look at another sessiion in future.

Cheers
Richard

That hour went really quick, Richard. You said you were by no means a pro at Guitar Pro, but you sure seemed to know your way around the program ok. Well presented. I ordered it and will definitely use it in the future. Thanks!

I’m new to guitar software, so far I’ve only been recording myself using my laptop camera and built-in microphone and built-in QuickTime software. Richard’s class has me interested in GuitarPro and I have some questions: 1. Do I need a separate microphone plugged in or does it use the laptop’s mic? 2. Does GuitarPro have looper? 3. Can I record myself over playback tracks? 4. My laptop is a MacBook Air so it comes with Apple’s GarageBand, which I’ve haven’t used. How does GarageBand compare with GuitarPro?

Guitar Pro is not for recording. It’s for writing sheet music and then playing a digitised version of the music. I use it often as a practice tool.

Hi Richard,
I watched the recording of your GP8 lesson - it is a great introduction
I’ve used GP since a few months once in a while, but I regularly get stuck with the following issue:
When writing down a song (melody), my method is to first introduce the notes as such and then to add the rythm, i.e. introduce the right note ā€œvaluesā€ (whole, half, quarter, eighth, etc.). Doing so, GP makes all notes quarters at the beginning and calculates the bars accordingly.
I have not found out how to easily arrange the bars afterwards in the process of changing the notes to their right values.

It is quite frustrating :-(((

Can you help, please?

Thanks a lot
Thomas

There’s a handy little tool called ā€˜Bar Arranger’ in the ā€˜tools’ menu that will sort out your bars for you …
