Vintage Club resumes after a short summer break and in this club I am going to revisit a popular topic but for which the first two sessions have no recording - triads on the G, B & E strings.
In this session you will learn what triads are, to form simple grips for three movable triad shapes on the G, B & E strings, and play along with music built on major chords. Accessible to all, best suited to Grade 2+.
In advance preparation, you could learn and practice the shapes of the three major triads on the G, B & E strings.
The three minor triad shapes are also shown for use in a future club.
Thank you for this very enjoyable and informative lesson. I have not been at any of the clubs for quite a while (I have been end of Grade 2 consolidating and going off on guitar tangents - theory - learning songs I love etc). Just starting Grade 3.
This club was 100 miles an hour (in a good way) and sometimes challenging to keep up with the examples - I could only manage 2 out of the 3 motifs on any given “set” but, hey, that is what the recording is for and if it was that easy then what would be the point. Still, I found the participatory style very close to what I would get from an in-person session. I liked the magical bits when we could hear the signature tonality of the 5ths and the flat 3rds. I loved your excitement about the process where you know a chord is coming up and you are then prepared to “i’m gonna get you” with the killer note. Its great to see how this works in reality and the thought process behind it. What fun. I feel I have had my eyes really opened here. Thank you again, so much.
@spacey thanks so much Craig. Your mention of motifs and target 5th and b3rds makes me think you’re referring to the triads in the blues session, club #18.
Doh. Well it seems you are right. I followed the link from the email sent out on Monday 11 Aug 2025 (for the expected “LIVE NOW: Vintage Club #27”).
It took me straight to the Archived video for " Vintage Club #18 | Triads in the Blues". (ie the Groundhog Day episode). So, even though the link in the email was wrong, silly old me sat through an old youtube video thinking it was live . (I admit to being an Old Dog but jeez). I did think it odd that the prep was for the shapes of the three major triads on the G, B & E strings whereas in the lesson you dived straight into the three minor triads. Oh well. What a happy accident. Now I must look out the archive for the lesson I missed and register for the “minors” follow up. Your blues triads lesson has, however whetted my appetite and I want more - so my glowing testimonial still stands and is positive proof that all errors, mistakes and dumb stuff are always the first steps on the road to success and should be embraced. Thanks again
Hi Richard
I missed this class because I live in Australia and I love my sleep haha! I also can never work out the time difference. I have no idea what a triad is so was wondering if I could watch the lesson somehow if it is saved somewhere? And if it is how do I access it? Cheers Liz
