If you read further up this thread you will see that a lot have suffered with the rhythm.
At the end of Justin’s lesson he talks about the Rock and Roll style technique and establishes that the song has a shuffle rhythm. As the drums are playing a shuffle that will be confusing to Grade1ers when playing along to the song so should ignore the drums. Try establishing the rhythm with the organ part right at the beginning and strum along to that which is what Justin teaches.
The snare, like in a million rock songs, falls on beats 2 and 4. In fact, I think paying attention to the snare hits is often the best way to find the “1”.
No. As I said previously, the snare is on the beat. Knopfler is playing triplet shuffle in time with the snare. As Justin says, his lesson is not trying to teach you to play it just like the record.
I also got confused a bit. As far as I understand the intro goes like this:
-------A---------------D------------
-------E---------------D-------E----
-------A---------------D------------
-------E---------------D-------E----
-------A—A—A—A—D—D—D—D
-------E—E—E—E—D—D—E—E
-------1—2—3—4—1—2—3—4
EDIT: for some reason my copy-paste from notepad lost it’s alignment, I hope it’s still clear.
