@allinda725 Hello and welcome to the Community Alan.

We have a supportive, pay-it-forward ethos and always ready to help others along the way.

To help you we really need a bit more detail and information on what chord(s) you are playing and what issue you are hearing.

Also, what guitar is it, is it tuned up, are you placing the correct fingers in the correct places etc?

Hi @Richard_close2u, the question was quite ambiguous and your answer seems to interpret it as a question about the individual notes sounding bad while playing a chord, reasonably enough.

However, since @allinda725 originally posted this query in the lesson topic for “How to Play a Melody on Guitar”, I wonder if the question is about how to find the correct note in the melody when it is not a chord tone? Hopefully, @allinda725 will come back and clarify.

If my interpretation of the question is correct, I would answer in this way: the notes in a melody, while often are contained the chord being played, are not always chord tones. So, after determining that a chord tone is not correct, you should try the other notes in the major scale of the key that you are in. Most of the time the notes are in the major scale.
