James, I canāt rightfully claim that I knew the answer.
That said, when figuring it was likely not going to be obvious, such as AC/DC or Bee Gees, plus being a goodie for the campfire, The Seekers did cross my mind. But only briefly as Iād have not imagined them having a #1 song, even on the pop charts.
That said, I loved The Seekers, from age 9, as my parents had three of their albums. First enjoyed their rendition of Blowing in the Wind. Always like to read album covers so took notice that it was written by one B Dylan ā¦ whoever that was.
An entirely different band, Michael. I liked them as well as my parents had one of their albums. I remember āLook what theyāve done to my songā which may have been an original or cover. Heck maybe not even them given it is near 45 years ago.
I have been thinking about campfire songs lately. I watched a video that Justin did where he listed 3 types of songs to learn. One category was easy songs you memorize in case you are at a campfire. I have learned several songs but havenāt memorized them yet. I am thinking about choosing a few songs I l have learned and memorizing them. In this thread, people mentioned some songs I know: Take it Easy , Folsom Prison Blues, Country Roads , Mad World and Knockin on Heavens Door.
Interesting choice, Country Roads I think most people would know as well as Take it Easy. Folsom Prisson perhaps less so unless they are into Johnny Cash, Mad world fairly well know, as is Knocking on Heavens Door.
Like all things it depends who you are playing them to.
Michael
I think i would have
1 Eleanor Rigby
2 Metal Guru T.Rex
3 Stand by me
4 Peggy Sue Buddy Holly
5 Its so easy Buddy Holly
and may be ride a white swan T.Rex
I am currently learning 4&5 at the moment on both electric and acoustic.
Sorry if I bump this old thread, but the question might be old, but never out of date so hereās is my suggestions for 5 campfire songs that I really like.
Brown eyed girl ā Van Morrison
(super easy classic)
Stand by me ā Ben E. King
(nice rhythm with the specific muting)
ā¦Baby one more time ā Britney Spears
(youāll be surprised how many people like this song on acoustic guitar!)
Somebody to Love ā Jefferson Airplane
(a little tricky to sing, but man it has a nice groove!)
Nothing else matters ā Metallica
(if you stick to the open chord version and itās a real easy song both play and sing)
And since I never been good at math, hereās an extra suggestion:
Last kiss ā Pearl jam (if the campfire company havenāt heard this song before (or actually read the lyrics), there might be tears. So be careful and play this song ONLY if you want to put the guitar away for the rest of the evening).
BUT IF they insist on āone last songā after that, Iāll pick this one:
Picture ā Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow
(The lyrics is written by Sheryl Crow and it start with two broken hearts that end up mended at the end of the song.)
Your first song is also top of my list, sorry the other ones would not be anywhere near my list, some I am unaware of, but that is the beauty of it, we all have different views.
If I was to redo my list which I am not, I would make some changes, but guess that is inevitable as you progress you learn other songs that work for campfires.
