What happened to my comment, YouTube?!

Today I posted a comment under a video on YT uploaded by an old friend of mine, a girl-singer with whom I used to play years ago. The comment survived perhaps half an hour then disappeared. Is it possible that it was deleted by some crazy verification algorithm because it contained a link to one of my recordings on SoundCloud?

undoubtedly. I’m going to bet that buried somewhere under youtube’s TOS there is a statement about linking to perceived competitors

Thanks a lot for confirming my suspicions. I never read full TOS text, my bad… Anyway, lesson learned.

can’t blame you. I wonder if someone has counted out how much of your life you would waste away if you read every word of every TOS of every service you ever sign up to use?

You’re right, most people never read those… I think that stipulation of not linking competitors’ websites is a bit crazy; it’s very unlikely that the SC, when linked, would actually steal any YT users. They’re different platforms, with different presentation means and purposes.

From a quick google search, it seems it could be a setting activated by the poster of the video to prevent spam. Apparently this setting could delete pretty much every post with a link.

I tried to link to one of my sound recordings in a YouTube comment, and it got deleted after a few minutes… with no warning and no explanation.

The channel owner told me he thought that YouTube forbade posting links in comments… he didn’t say that he had chosen that option for his channel.

I thought it was some kind of a bug in the app at first, and wasted quite a bit of time reposting it.

Just further evidence of the ensh*tification of the big platforms, IMO.

@LadyOfTheCastle @Tbushell Great comments, they shed some more light on how some platforms operate. Thank you.
FYI, I later posted an identical comment, word for word, just without the link, and it was accepted, no probs.

Or perhaps she just didn’t like it

What, my post or the recording linked? Hehe… The latter, if so, because she liked my second comment bereft of the link

It’s a bit crazy though, once I read a comment to a JG’s video…the person seemed new to JG world and seemed a bit lost…so I adviced to get to justinguitar.com because he/she would find a very helpful written description of the video…and they deleted it! Crazy!

Absolutely! Seems those platforms have obviously some interest in banning links to other websites with a similar content.

If only more TOS were presented like this
