Was trying out different picks for a while, but for now settled with Ultex Sharp and use it exclusively.
My wife got me some wood picks awhile ago.
I didnât think Iâd like them.
I was wrong.
Itâs all I use now. Unless I just use my fingers w/o a pick. Which is at least half the time now a days.
Dunlop big stubby 2mm and 3mm, 2mm for strumming and 3mm for picking; great easy to keep hold of picks when youâve got a bit of arthritis in your fingers!
For playing electric Iâve used Jim Dunlop Jazz III picks (both red and black) for ages.
I agree completely with this, heck I donât always hold a pick the same way as others do. I recommend buying an assortment of picks and find the ones that suit you best. Picks generally do not break the bank and there is no single pick that suits every playing situation. Personally I like the Dunlop Tortex triangle for most of my playing:
Dunlop Jazz III have worked out well for me for lead playing (pinch harmonics are super easy with these picks):
When I want to soften the attack a bit (similar to a thumb strum) I use rubber Wedgies:
What makes the pinch harmonics easier due to these picks?
They are small, pointy and stiff ( ). Your thumb is right there next to the string. I challenge you to fail mastering âsquealiesâ with Jazz III picks.

thanks for the tip.
Donât cheap out, get the assortment pack.
when I started learning, I bought at least one of nearly every Dunlop pick there is. Iâm covered!
I like the Fender celluloid picks. I finally graduated from thin to medium. I know, theyâre cheap and most people donât like them. But they donât slip around in my fingers. The tortex ones are slippery to me.
Fender celluloid picks are my favorite too! I am playing much faster with these picks. Especially the one that is thick. Whatâs suits you more? The thin, the medium or the thick?
