When changing chords, the transition is not clean ... please help

Hi guys. Very new here.
My current struggles are : 1. when changing chords, the transition is not clean. There is always extension (“overtone”) from the previous chord . 2. when I do the strumming, I usually can’t find the correct beginning string without looking at the fret. …

Wondering any of you share the same problems. Will keep on praciticing…

Hi Chris, welcome to the Community! If you have a minute, consider introducing yourself over here.

Regarding your struggles: Are you following Justin’s lessons? If not, this is your answer. Start at the beginning — Grade 1 Module 0 — and follow the lessons in order (the lessons build on one another). If you are following the lessons, consider watching all of the Module 1 lessons. The fourth lesson (I think!) introduces the One Minute Changes exercise. This is what you are looking for! I’m not sure what you mean by “overtone” from the previous chord — perhaps that it continues ringing out and you don’t want it to? — but don’t worry about that for now. Justin will cover skills related to things like this in future lessons.

If you are “very new”, this isn’t unexpected and takes time and work you get better.

Follow the lessons, practice slowly. Figure out how to land fingers on the frets as together as possible. Learn to not need last moment adjustments. Learn not to allow a pause between changes, learn to mute or not mute when needed. Slowly speed up.

Mostly, allow yourself time to practice and learn these things. Expecting it to be easy leads to frustration and pushing it too fast leads to bad habits. You will be able to do it after a while. The skills grow as you keep at it and you will be amazed with yourself!

Practice, practice and some more practice.

When you’re just starting out, try to move slowly, but surely. Make sure your changes are good changes. They need to sound clean.
Start slowly and speed will come with practice.

Remember, it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
Have fun on your journey!!
