Wild fires

Anyone having risk of fires this season? A small one just popped up near me. Not too likely to require evacuation, but close enough to make us think, and to see it😱

Looking at the fire map of the western US, it kind of freaks me out. Hope everyone is safe!

Now, which guitar do I save….

That looks impressive …experienced it 3 times on holiday…

And we always live on the edge here (I live in Nijkerk)

Living on the west coast, this unfortunately tends to be my reality every summer.

There is a big wildfire burning in southern Oregon right now, but luckily nothing in our immediate area. I’ll never forget in 2020 when the sky was orange here for essentially 2 weeks straight and Portland had such bad air quality that we weren’t supposed to even open our doors. That was fun… :expressionless:

It hasn’t been that bad since 2020, but we have had at least one day every year where the air quality plummets due to smoke. I’ve been very fortunate that I’ve never had to evacuate, but I’ve had a few friends lose their homes to fire. Some even lived with us for a few months while they figured out what they were going to do. I hate wildfires!

Hi Joshua, hope the fires don‘t come closer! Wish you and your family all the best. Thanks god, I‘ve never experienced that where I live here in Germany. As climate is changing dramatically, we already had big fires in other areas of our country.
Stay safe and take care!

@Jenndye429 , yeah I worry about you folks up there. It was looking at the wildfire map of the northwest that scared me. More than our little fire. Ours is moving away from my house, so good for me, not for someone else, no doubt. Smoke is pretty bad, but not “lock the doors” bad😱

This is not to far from where I grew up.

Oh sh… Stay safe overthere, folks!! That looks truly frightening!

We never used to worry much about wildfires here in Nova Scotia…even though the whole province is almost completely forested.

But last spring (2023) we had two major fires of record size. One was about 5 km from me, and burned a whole subdivision. It was scary…I had my “bug out bag” all packed, and was waiting for the evacuation order.

Fortunately, it never came.

But wildfire risk is definitely moving north as the climate warms. Presumably, moving south in the southern hemisphere as well.

Stay safe, Joshua and everyone else potentially affected by the wildfires. Hopefully they will be under control soon.

Always worry when I see these reports pop up in the news, as I know many of my friends here live near or in these areas. Be that US, Canada or more recently the extreme weather hitting Australia.

Wherever you are be safe be well !

We have bad fires in Arizona also. We get a ton wildfires during our monsoon storms due to the lightning that comes with it. These are not your average thunderstorms. It can be frightening we stuck outside when it hits but its also amazing. We have a number of active fires going on right now.

We just had the 11 year anniversary of a terrible fire that took the life a whole hotshot crew. 19 were killed stopping the Yarnell fire only one survived because he was separated. They were mostly all locals trying to help the community.

My wife used to work on the hotshot crews out of Reno and Lake Tahoe area. I was always so worried about her when she was out on the fire line. Fighting fires in steep mountains and in a large forest is one of the toughest jobs a person can do IMO. God bless the firefighters on the front lines

We are having monsoon storms and lightning roll in right now at my place.

Wow, that would scare me too! I can’t imagine being out there in this rocky dry terrain in 98F heat, mountain sun and to make it worse all in a place called “Rattlesnake Gulch” (and for literal good reason)!
