Loved learning this song with Justin’s video, it’s great and concise as always.
Here is a casual rendition at a dock by Lake Zurich
Short excerpt:
Full-Length version:
Still hard to do the scale run/riff in between clean and get back into time. Also the lalala, part is harder than I thought to sound ok.
As always, sorry for not being here more often, I spend most of the time I get for the guitar practicing, when I have some better moments with my health.
Interacting online takes a lot of energy out of me…
Having a good moment with my mom though, she spontaneously recorded it.
I thought it’s shareable enough and maybe some people get inspired to learn the song, as I think it’s super fun to play.
So as always wishing you all great ongoing fun at learning the guitar to all Justin disciples all over the world from Zurich
It looks like a very beautiful day in the sun, Marcel
I think you played this song really well. I particularly liked the percussive hits and how you managed to integrate those runs/riffs while keeping the pulse.
Is your mother doing the back-up vocals?
Thanks for linking Justin’s lesson. It’s a very entertaining one. Hmm… One fine day I will get there.
Lovely video, Marcel, captures what it it is all about … making music and sharing the joy. You are doing pretty well with the vibe and feel of the song. Maybe try slowing down a fraction?
Yeah, so nice having a few nice summery days finally.
Thanks for the nice words.
Yes, my mother filmed and sang BGV on some choruses.
She likes to sing and also wants to learn to play guitar. I’m showing her the first steps, hopefully, someday we’ll sing and play together a full song.
Hehe, when I checked the link, he said in the description that he was not very happy about it. Maybe he felt it was not explained enough.
For me, it was perfect how he tells us to try to wrap our heads around the details without a TAB and all rhythm details laid out. Like that, we have to listen to the song and work it out, which is something we oughta do more intensely anyway.
As Jimmy Cliff said “You can do it if you really want. But you must try, try and try”
Thank you David for your time. The song resonated with me, so I loved to learn it and share it.
Yeah, I seem to fall into the classic trap of speeding it up, will try to calibrate and use my “foot metronome” more. Thanks for the tip.
You and your mom were really enjoying yourselfs out at the lake, Marcel!
That’s great and what a lovely setting it was. It’s good to see, you are still on your guitar journey and enjoying what you’re doing despite some health issues. That can be a real drawback at times, but the more joyful such moments as you shared here will feel, right?
Integrating the runs into playing seems quite tough, but you are already doing well on it. So good to see all the progress you made in the past months.
It makes me happy it’s appreciated.
Greetings and same to you too, keep on rockin’ on
Yeah, thankfully I can have better moments, also making music helps to kinda meditate, and be in the moment. It’s also nice to connect with people in the moment. Recently some people approached me when playing, who spontaneously wanted to sing with me and/or were inspired to get back to guitar after talking about it. This makes me happier than most things ever.
Thanks for the nice words, yeah, the joy of guitar is still there and I still try to practice daily to not lose it, even if I don’t feel like recording or posting much.
Thank you for the well-wishes. I’ll try my best to stay positive.
Hi Marcel, I enjoyed your video in a great setting. Kudos for playing outside in front of people, not sure, if I could do that without losing all my concentration. You are making great progress as far as I can see. Solid and steady rhythm and +1 for picking out the individual notes. Best of all is to see how much joy you put into your playing and nice to see you singing together with your mum. Save those precious moments!
I wish you all the best health wise (I know about those struggles and how hard it is, just to keep on with the daily committments). Hope your playing soothes your pain. Take care and play on!
I often also freeze up playing for strangers. But I keep trying and just dive into the music instead of thinking too much. Sometimes it works. Sometimes I get still hung up on my mistakes and freeze up.
It gets better with practice and being mindful about not always playing perfect and just soldiering on, trying to stay in rythm, despite imperfections.
Having not much success in life at the moment, learning the guitar and sharing the joy of it, gives me something to be happy about
There are periods in life, when things are getting hard and we are forced to find our ways through. Happy to read that guitar gives you back some positive energy. Your enthousiasm is clearly visible, keep those happy hours!
Wish you all the best and hopefully some better times soon!
That’s such a nice recording, Marcel. I love that you and your Mom did it together. And that she has plans to learn to play the guitar as well .
You’re playing was really good. Great job on the single note picking . I know how difficult this can be, but it sounds so great .
I also like seeing you playing at the shore of the lake. I absolutely love playing guitar close to the water. Water, it appears to me, always creates a very special atmosphere.
Marcel, I wish you all the best and do hope that your health problems get better soon. Keep on making music to focus on the positive things in live .
That was awesome Marcel. Most importantly you looked like you were having so much fun and what a beautiful idea to sit outside by the lake and play guitar.
@Rmking60 Thanks man, really nice song. Honestly, I haven’t yet really dove into NY stuff until now. But it’s in a similar vein as YCS (whom I also just recently discovered).
There’s a world of singer-songwriter I still have to get to know.
But I love the passion and playing in your version.
Thanks for the nod. And keep on spreading that passion
@NicoleKKB I Had a lesson with a guitar teacher today and it was fun and informative. Such moments when meeting a person who loves music are nice. I try to when I can share the positivity too. Thanks and many good things to you too
@Helen0609 Happy it’s visible and I hope too I can soon sing “I can see clearly now” with confidence Thanks
@Willsie Playing with emotion is easier when feeling in good company. I think to play in front of “strangers” , we maybe just need to get into this mindset as regardless of the situation as possible.
@pkboo3 Thank you Pamela for the nice words. Telling my mom that you said we sounded fantastic made her very happy
@Eddie_09 When I got the drive I try to use my privilege being near such a beautiful place, the few days it’s warm outside But so long there are still some sunny days. Thanks for the nice words, and many sunny days to you
Great energy to your version, and great you’ve got the run downs together too.
If you’d like feedback,
I’d only say that you would get even more out of doing this song if you work on the melody in the verses. Try singing along to the record without your guitar a few times to really nail the tune. The verse melody is quite difficult. It is intricate and has a delicate line.
Lovely to have those harmony vocals going on too.
Well done✌️
Cheers
