Will a missing fds tendon affect my guitar play?

i recently found out that i am missing an fds tendon in my left hand pinky, i can’t bend my pinky towards my palm without the help of my ring finger, i can still use my pinky and fret with it but it’s kinda slow, i don’t i know if it’s slow because i am still a beginner or because of the tendon, playing electric guitar btw. Thanks.

Really nice name, so enjoy being here, your question, being it your little finger and assuming it isn’t such a bother, go with it, honestly, it shouldn’t give you too much bother, keep learning until you notice it is affecting you, do not let it stop you you have lots of fun coming your way before your little digit will affect your playing honestly keep learning cheers HEC

Try it, if it is a problem you can learn lefty. Then you won’t need that pinky much in the picking/strumming hand.

Plenty of lefties learning righty, so the other way will work too.

To answer your question. It might but it doesn’t matter. Lots of amazing artists played with an old injury or something. It forced them to focus on their strengths.

Joni Mitchell had to make use of Altered tuning and different chord voicings because she had poli as a child and it made her hand extremely weak. Its the alternate and wierd chords that got her noticed by others in the industry and its part of what makes her sound so cool.

So keep working through it find alrternate ways to do what you need.
At the same time you will also be strengthening that hand the more you play. You will find a lot of things you could not do today, will not be difficult in one year from now.

I taught anatomy for a year, and this is quite a common condition. (I’m missing one in my right hand). You should still be able to flex your pinky using your deep flexors, and your extensors will ‘hold back’ your ring finger from pressing on stings in an unwanted fashion.

Welcome to the club!
It’ll get faster and stronger in proportion to practice

Welcome to the community Ner. Do you know the name Django Rheinhardt, if not check out his music. Many people with four fingers cannot play his music and he only had two. Enjoy your time here.
