Rogier and James said I mimed
I think that was a typo.
Iām sure they meant that you mimmed.
Or were they referring to your video.
That wasnāt miming ā¦ that was lip syncing.
And look what happened to Milli Vanilli!
Mimmed?
Urban Dictionary Definition:
(slang) A person who is extremely proficient and knowledgeable in their fieldā¦
U
Did you make that answer up ?
Convicted of fraud, shaming and death (at least one)
Just stand in front of the mirror, Brian, turn up the volume and youāll be good to go for another monthā¦Happy pill
The difference between Milli Vanilli and Taylor is they didnāt Write, Sing or Play any instruments they where puppets.
Taylor Writes, Sings, Plays Guitar and Piano.
Thatās a good point, we meant lip syncing. Though, Iām sure Brian would make a good mime.
Relax, Rik @stitch, and please, read everything before you react. It could save you some frustration.
The reference to Milli Vanilli was an answer to Brian ācomplainingā because he had been āaccused of mimingā - it was a joke. This comment was in no way whatsoever linked to Swift.
Besides, before this, Richard had already written this:
So you can be assured: Richard is fully aware Taylor Swift knows how to write, play, sing and perform. No need to defend her (or to compare her to Milli Vanilli ).
@LadyOfTheCastle I have no idea what your problem is. This is the second time in this thread youāve tagged me with negative comments. First off I wasnāt venting and second Iām not frustrated.
I am relaxed I did read all of Richards post. I was just stating that there is no comparing Taylor Swift to Milli Vanilli. If you donāt know who MV is look them up.
Just for clarity across the board.
I was cmparing Milli Vanilli to our very own Brian @brianlarsen.
In a recent AVOYP Brian openly and unashamedly did some lip sync on his video. If I recall correctly it was due to him having already multi-track recorded and mixed the vocal.
He was having his leg pulled in friendly manner.
I was joining in with that same spirit.
My comments about Milli were entirely light hearted.
My comments about Taylor Swift were serious.
Now, relax.
It is still the case that nobody has died or been hurt.
'Cept Iāve had my legs pulled off and been compared to Milli whatsisname
ā¦ and youāve been dragged in to sort out the playground
I hope youāre happy now, Rogier and James!
Iām thinking of tagging Justin to come and sort this out!
Come to think of it, I havenāt seen Shane around for a while (sensible guy ).
Iād be inclined to lock the thread before the chuckle brothers think of something funny to respond
@brianlarsen I see you were wrongly accused, If you were lip syncing to yourself youād be more like Taylor Swift than MV.
Iāve been following this thread, trying to decide what I think about it (it = Taylor Swift possibly lip syncing).
I saw Queen in 1977 (Third row! Caught a carnation from Freddie Mercury! Still remember the shirt Brian May wore! Be still my heart!) I was quite young, but remember (a) wondering just how they were going to play Bohemian Rhapsody and (b) being weirdly disappointed when the main stage lights went down (and fancy effects lights came up) while the tapes played (cue older Judi thinking - duh!). But - fabulous show, they did sing and play, except when they didnāt. I donāt think anyone was upset, or really expected different. I do know I was still quite naive.
I saw the Stones at a festival in 1978, and remember Mickās voice being shattered (pun intended). It was more of a croak, really. I recall being disappointed, then realizing it was the end of a long tour, and that Mick was getting pretty old anyway, so what did I expect?
I saw Billy Bragg a few weeks ago. One guy with two different guitars. No effects aside from his pedals, vocals were great.
How does this relate to Taylor Swift? Well, I find her irritating (too much glitter, cosmetics, support hose, etc) yet absolutely respect her as a businesswoman. I donāt even recognize her music, and when itās pointed out to me I realize I really donāt enjoy it. Still, to my mind she presents herself as a costumed singer-songwriter who āputs on a great showā. Given that, Iād be disappointed to learn that the singer-songwriter whom Iād just paid hundreds of dollars to see, was lip-syncing.
Thank you all for the therapy session. I feel much better.
Helli Jim,
I posted it there under the āJust Chattingā section, given its a somewhat relevant and interesting, subject, related to this communities activities. Is there a problem?
Cheers, Shane
I agreed with her reaction to your post.
@stitch , I only have a problem with people being rude without need. My first reaction was to a post I perceived as unnecessarily rude. Maybe you didnāt mean it like that, but thatās how it came across to me.
My second reaction was simply trying to explain what Richard has also explained in the mean time:
It seemed to me you had misunderstood that there was no comparison being made between MV and TS - none at all, by no one. I just wanted to explain this to you, but apparently, you didnāt appreciate this. If you perceived this as a negative reaction, Iām happy to apologise.
I know Iām still pretty new here, but Iāve been watching some of the early OM videos and I think I need to disagree with this. I donāt think Brian would make a good mime at all!
(Sorry, Brian, always love watching your turn on the OMs!)
Part of living on the other side of the planet is to often miss the opportunity to shoot the breeze " live" with you interesting northern folk.
It appears this thread has expanded very quickly into a āhealthyā discussion.
@brianlarsen You lipsync anytime you like mate. You have a free pass for such things.
Technically though, for others, Brian wasnāt live, didnt get paid ( you didnt get paid did you Brian?), and from memory was totally upfront about it; except with the lead guitarist .
I suppose my rationale for actually posting is my distaste for these now āvirusesā that have entrenched themselves in modern music.
Widespread lipsynching of lead vocals, auto tune, and pitch correction.
Im aware that lipsynching is not a new thing, but in the past I believe it was much more of an adhoc thing, done for temporary logistical, health etc reasons mainly. Of course, some did it a bit more than others, and perhaps for other reasons, but it was not widespread.
Today, coupled with massive technological advances, it seems its everywhere.
The use of pitch correction has now become standard practice. Non-pitched corrected music is now the exception, and that is just very sad.
The ālifeā is being sucked out of it, out of fear of risking image, the need to control every aspect of a production regardless, as well as the vast amounts of dollars now involved.
Publishers are even re-releasing iconic albums from the past, pitch-corrected. Crazy. And to top it off, they are doing an exceedingly crap job of it.
I just think its a bit sad that many today are listening to a mechanised version of great vocalists of the past. And āliveā music today has become a murky topic.
Each to their own, I suppose. Thatāll do; Iāll end it there. Although only 55, I donāt want be seen as the old man sitting on his porch whining about the world as it passes by. Plenty of lifetimes for that .
Cheers, Shane
That is the kind of thing my mother sais. well said Richard. No need to chuck a tizzy over it
This seems to be a very controvercial topic. Its almost political in some places. pop politics though
To me this is just a āStorm in a teacupā to quote a golden oldie!
It happens, particularly on the MTV VMAs - everyone on the Main Stage lip syncs itās a MTV stipulation! So she was Lip syncing on her world tour, did anyone complain about her performances???
Most of the big Pop culture artists do it regardless of whether they are good or not - the crowd expects a great performance so thatās what they get!
If it was a small cosy venue then I would expect it to be truly live, warts and all, but huge stadiums itās their choice.
