I watched this yesterday night and thought it may be a good source of inspiration for some of the community. It’s from an artist who I have a great deal of respect for, she is also a very interesting person. I’m talking about Mary Spender - she’s a gem!

Thanks for sharing this Darrell! Great message!
It’s so true! It doesn’t matter how old the artist is if it’s about the art!
I like Mary Spender too

Mary Spender is great
She’s addressing two issues here though:
- When have I ‘made it’ as a musician? (The simplest answer is when you can enjoy playing/making music)
- How do I make money from music? Well, that’s a harder one to crack, because it’s what we do for enjoyment. We pay to learn and play music and share it for free with anyone willing to listen. (Same goes for any hobby/interest- art, cooking, cars, gaming…) Part of me feels sorry for all artists who turn their passion into their day job. Only the tiniest fraction can earn a crust by doing creativly what they wish and be paid for it. That pressure of having to bring in the next paycheck inevitably takes away some of the joy of the art itself.
There is some irony in that, whilst Mary cherishes her anonymity, she is constantly trying to gain viewers (become more famous?) to continue her good work. I wish her well and am sure she will be fine whatever happens, (as she says herself)
