I want to learn new song and I wanna create TABs for myself based on YouTube video.
I would like to ask you if its OK to have some parts that are not full four beats? It feels strange to me.
Like first part of phrase is 1 + 2 + 3 + (G2)
Then there is next phrase part in D which is OK → 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
Next part Amin7 is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 (why the hell there is five? )
End of whole (riff?) is on D and G2 1 + 2 + 3.
Do I count it bad or think about it bad? Counting like this helps me to strumm and place melody on correct time but it just mess my head that it can work like not whole 8th strumming pattern.
These TABs are created by me based on what I can see and hear. My first tries of doing it.
You are marking all the hits as having equal duration.
The general strum action is down strum 8ths but not all of those are being hit.
Slow down the video, watch the down / up motion of his hand, clap or snap or tap your foot in time and start counting 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & etc… Then repeat and begin to omit counting out loud when he is not hitting the strings. That will indicate to you where the quarter note duration hits are used.
@Richard_close2u Thanks Richard, I am gonna do that. It is harder for me because he is palm muting that.
So final result should be it fit perfectly on 8th strumming and not missing something or having any extra?
Edit: So the G2 propper counting is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2
Am I right?
And after that 2 continue the D?
Edit edit: If I count though all it really ends like 8th strumming with one strumm being played as UP and not DOWN, but that is just how it is in the song.
Chord changes don’t always have to be on the 1. Why don’t you just move the barlines after the "and"s of 4s? I didn’t notice shifting time in the video. I tried to focus on his strumming hand movement but it just threw me off. I think it would be worth to just focus on the sound.
Also, when I tried to tap along to the beat in Justin’s tempo calculator, the BPM seemed to fluctuate between c. 120-140 which I think is a little weird. Either that, or I just couldn’t feel the beats.
@Jozsef so in this case… if it is hard to measure in time like this I can “count” it how I want as I get to the point where it sounds same or at least similar?
Like a little cheat where I focus more on sound and flow than counting?
I watched some videos digging guitar legends where they showed someone has adaptive tempo for example.
I just wanted to have something… physical to look in while learning and having correct counting sounded like good idea to me.
Oh the bar lines was just first devide from me so I can focus on parts. That was first use. I am gonna move them but I need to check if this section is not much easier for me to learn, because I got divided chords and not time and learning phrase like this seems easier.
@Mustela I am gonna check that. I used first free online TABs that popped on me after search bar.
