A classic from Thunderclap Newman

Hi gang,
Been a while since I posted. I have always wanted to add this song to my list as it brings back so many memories for me. Originally released by Thunderclap Newman in 1969 Tom Petty also did a great cover of it in the 90’s. My version takes from both versions. I do a very simplified middle section where the original goes off in to an amazing piano solo. Anyways I hope you enjoy my efforts and as always please feedback your thoughts as they are so helpful and encouraging.
Cheers

Wow that was a blast from the past Ron! Really great and I enjoyed your version. Excellent vocal, super driving strum pattern and I liked your instrumental middle section, it worked well.
I think you’ve used a lot less reverb than you often do on your vocal in this production. I liked that.
Well done.

Great sound Ron!
How do you do that? Secret pedal sauce?
Your guitar just sounds so full.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve come to dig your shares. Seems you’ve always got something cool sounding and this ones no different. Very well done.

I also like your flowers, Orchids? … Nice stage you’ve set up there. It looks peaceful.

That was a great listen Ron. I really liked your replacement for the piano part, it created a sense of anticipation. Of course, I was 11 years old when this song came out, and I’m still anticipating the world starting to get it together…

Lovely performance, Ron! It’s always a pleasure listening to your offerings!

That one was new to me, but I really liked it instantly. So well played and sung. The picked riff was amazing and you did the middle section really well, too (but as mentioned, no comparison to the original). Balance and tone for both vox and guitar was great.

You used an open tuning on this one, right?

Thanks for sharing!

Another great show, Ron. I always love to hear you perform. What were the chords around 2:07-2:30. Was that triads? Impressive!

Took me back a bit: I was a teenager when this was a hit!! Excellent cover, both the singing and the rhythm guitar. The guitar interlude - triads maybe - sounded quite good and could probably be developed more. Well played Ron!

If only the world could Michael….Thanks for the remarks and so pleased you enjoyed it. The piano replacement part is still a work in progress but for the moment I will use it when I gig.

Thank you Lisa
The riff is a classic part of the song and really adds to it in my opinion as well.
Yes I am tuned to DADF#AD.

I am really glad to hear you like my performances Pamela. Thank you
My guitar tuned to DADF#AD and yes the chords are a form of a triad for that tuning.

It is one of those songs that tends to take us back in time Brian. Thank you for your encouraging feedback. I agree the triads section needs work. Do you have any ideas?

Fantastic, both your guitar playing and your voice were brilliant! Inspiring this beginner guitarist.
