Thank you, Nicole, I appreciate your help its not easy getting old.
Not at all. Iāll send you a DM as a test when Iām home
Such small technical barriers are nothing compared to the fun this can probably be
ā¦ and theyāre off!
Godspeed and good luck to you all!
I would be so up for this! But it seems I will be occupied with another ācollabā quite soon.
Nevertheless, if time allows, I will chime in. Have fun everybody!
Hmmmā¦ We can of course also work on good night songs
It might be a bit That was brilliant, Brian. I have to admit, it even beats those militant armed cows ā¦
Cheers, Nicole, Iām sure my psychiatrist wife would help to pick up any broken pieces
Old-fashioned āvibesā to you, @Richard_close2u, for creating this collab/meeting place
(one day weāre gonna resurrect that āgloves-off/honest criticismā room too? )
Another great example of a Good night song but in german!
Lisa, you probably know this one and wonāt be playing it to your child in the next few years, I expect!
Brian, you did those schwyzerdĆ¼tsch covers very well, so I assume you speak german - or did you just replicate the sound - it sounded too good for the latter, I think!
Iām really exhausted today and have quite a hard day tomorrow, from very early to pretty late, but Iām keen that we bring the matter forward in the nearest possible future!
Best wishes,
Dominique
I didnāt mean to come across as directorial and shooing people away from a public topic.
Sorry if it came across that way.
I simply thought that once some people had found each other for Dominiqueās project, the actual nitty-gritty details would then become something you continue yourselves.
What a great topic, Dominique.
Iād love to participate in something like that. Donāt really know how and what and all, but itās the same for everyone at first, I think.
Fantastic example of a song, where lyrics are used to counter the music, making this little horror song all the more intriguing
Hmmā¦ I agree with Richard that at some point group or smaller group DMs might be the way to go. Otherwise - at the latest, when we are really starting to work on various songs - things might become confusing and tedious, not only for people reading along but also for people working together at various songs
My Germanās rusty but functional, albeit with an āurchigā CH-twang
The forum is a great way to find like-minded folk to hook up. But once thatās occurred, DMs (1-1 or in groups) are the way to go, till we get to hear the fruits of your labours
I understand where you are coming from Richard, in the community letās think about it, then off to the workshop prep play enjoy and build, then back to the community with our number one hit cheers HEC
The fruits of our labours? Weāll keep them in our DMs!
But youāll later hear them in the radio!
But what if Brian is listening to a different radio station or doesnāt listen to the radio at all?
Dearā¦ everyone who replied, I still owe you some answersā¦
Thank you Brian for all your input and motivation! Yes, I had found Richardās post, but planned to read it to the full extent later, as it was quite long! And I liked your collaboration on this and at least two more collabsā¦ what a songwriting and performing workhorse you are
Thanks a lot, Toby! Your hint bore fruit!
I was thinking about delaying itā¦ in the meantime, it seems like most are keen to start. But if we start without you, and it wonāt be a total letdown. Iām sure Iāll be up for another round of the same or something similar very soon anyway. You wonāt miss out!
Fantastic! I read all your messages and sent you a private message (aka PM aka DM).
Well, if you donāt feel like songwriting at the moment, ok - itās important to have some motivation so it makes sense. But skill level? - in terms of guitar playing and singing, your āRocket Manā is very very good - wow!
I think we will be able to manage it! And Iām happy youāre coming too!
Oh, itās not on me to decide, itās just a proposition and Iām happy if you join!
ā¦
so you can work together with someone who has more musical ideas than strength in lyrics writing. (like me for example) At least thatās what I think could work.
Great to hear! Iām quite sure it wonāt be the last opportunity! All fingers crossed for your collab!
(I had first written āthumbs crossedā, but that sounded odd )
Well, yes, Iām happy for eveyrone who joins! Great to have you!
haha, yes, could be, but wonāt the songs be played on all stations?
Iāll post an update tomorrow and then, we can bring the thing forward together.
All the best, for me itās goodnight,
Dominique
Thanks for checking it out Dom, appreciate your thoughts
Hello again,
something I wanted to stateā¦
About songwriting:
Iāve read a bit about songwriting and found a few videos I liked. I canāt call myself knowledgeable, but a few facts / statements I liked were:
The average person will write bad songs at first. Becauseā¦
You listened to quite a lot of music and your taste is well developed .
Your song writing skiills in the beginning arenāt! So you canāt yet produce anything up to your listening standards. Itās normal.
Someone stated 10 to 20 bad songs before a ākeeperā, Justin stated ādozensā if I remember well.
Lennon/McCartney wrote 200 songs in 8 years
and 20 number one songs Thatās 10% !!!
From what I read they wrote rather bad ones before meeting, while not very many it seems.
But most successful songwriters took their time too and admit they wrote lots of songs at the start they were not proud of later on.
So, donāt expect too much from your first tries, and I canāt guide anyone, unfortunately. My personal intent is to just start and tackle the first 10 or 20 bad ones rather soon, in order to get something hopefully better at one point in my life, rather than never! Well, but still to have fun along the way! It will be like guitar playing. The first steps are hard!
Some advice that made sense to me was like:
- Write a lot of songs
- Work hard on good ideas
- Work fast on average ideas (so you get that number of required ābadā songs needed up )
- Learn the tools* of the craft
*There are lots of tools and excercises that can help in the process, maybe Iāll link something and certainly some of you have sources to share too. Maybe it would make sense to start a thread with advice and tools refered to songwriting?
Sorry for the babble, I needed to get this out! I hope I couldnāt demotivate too many!
Update soon, and every input very welcome,
Dominique
