Audio / Video Tech Discussion - dedicated to the First Time Performers Open Mic #32

Id need some technical guidance please

can anyone using a scarlet solo help me ?

Deborah very much depends what the question is but it looks a straight forward AI with 1 mic and 1 line (gtr) and two output channels or USB. So will depend on what you are connecting it to and one assume for it to interface with Zoom.

However, before we get carried away with answers and muddy the FTO Notice thread, I’ll ask the mods aka @Richard_close2u @DavidP to maybe move this into a separate FTO Beginners Tech Questions and we can collate similar replies there.

So can I ask folks to respectfully hold your horses until that is done please.

here it is : is it possible to record the guitar directly from the scarlet just like a video on OBS ?
or do you absolutely need a mic ( so play using the amp )

Quick answer ahead of the question being moved.

Gtr → amp → Scarlett->pc or equiv-> obs/zoom/daw as appropriate.
There should be a line out or similar on the amp. So amp → cable → AI ^^^^

i tried that but i get no sound
I dont understand why

OK definitely sounds like a drains up required to see what’s going, so definitely in a separate thread.

So a few questions ahead one of our glorious mods collating all this elsewhere.

Amp - What amp ?
AI - Scarlet Solo
System/Device - PC / MAC / Other ? if its MAC/IOS I’m outa here
App - DAW/OBS/Zoom/Other

Have you paid the electric bill ?

Ok im back so here goes :

Amp - Vox MV 50
AI - Scarlet Solo
System/Device - Mac Sequoia 15.4
App - Zoom ( trying to set it up for the Om )

Have you paid the electric bill ?
Yes since I can reply here

set up :

Gtr → pedal board → amp → power soaker → Scarlett → Mac

Zoom :

No problem when I record on OBS but no sound If I record on Zoom

Is the MAC audio/speaker set to the Scarlet or default audio.

Have you hit the Test Speaker ? What happens.

Uncheck HF and Stereo on Zoom, not needed.

More thoughts while feeding !

When you have done your recordings, have you used the Scarlet into the Mac ?

Do you have any other apps running in addition to Zoom - OBS or recording software.
I used to get an issue on Windows with my AI not being seen as it had already be “grabbed” by another app,

Is the MAC audio/speaker set to the Scarlet or default audio.

It is set on Scarlett

Have you hit the Test Speaker ? What happens.

Nothing !! doesnt hear the guitar

I tried to same set up with a Mic ( Chromium )
the guitar was directly plugged in the mic
I could hear the guitar in my headphone and the music from the JG app
but on Zoom … nothing., it was only hearing my voice in the mic

Uncheck HF and Stereo on Zoom, not needed.

I will

Not familiar with MAC or MAC audio, so expertise needed from other users methinks.
But does the MAC have an audio setting where a device is set up for exclusive use.
In Windows its in the devices Advanced settings and can stop another App using the audio. For example if I set my AI up as the PC default audio and play some audio through my browser, YT etc, If I leave the browser running and start Zoom or a DAW they can’t access the AI. Just a thought.

I’m a complete noob with this, but to me it seems weird to send the audio from the Mac to the Scarlett if it’s supposed to go to Zoom?

its the other way around
the scarllet to the Mac

But the screenshot above is for the output audio settings of your Mac, and it shows the output going to the Scarlett

yes thats the speaker , to be able to hear in the headphone
it does not set the sound on an app
you can choose between the speaker on the mac mini , the speakers or the headphone on the scarlett ( or the mic )

Deborah are you monitoring the audio via the Mac or the AI ?

Ok now I dont understand , what do you mean …. I dont have Many sound control options
