Great job Shane! Keep on rocking
Well done Shane, thatās one of my favourite early FM songs. Clearly a load of work has gone into that one. Great stuff.
Thanks to all for having a listen to Man Of The World; and the kind words.
Jumping At Shadows - Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac
Recently been working on this (yet another) great song by Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac.
This is the intro only. Its a sort of " double-intro/instrumental". The first part is played by Peter, the second part by Danny Kirwan.
Although not the whole song yet, I thought it OK to put in my AVOYP rather than my learning log, as its a sort of self contained piece in a way, and Iāve got it to a level where its sounding OK.
The actual main part of the song is very simple, but thereās a great main solo to learn thatās gonna take a little while. Thought Iād put this up now, in case the Reaper comes for me in the meantime .
This piece can be a bit emotional to play to be honest. And from a learning perspective, itās very much about the phrasing and the dynamics, so lots of value there.
Iād encourage everyone to listen to the original Live in Boston 1970 performance. Just absolute magic.
Surprisingly, this great song, while played live often by the early Fleetwood Mac, was never released on any of their Fleetwood Mac albums. I believe they did a studio recording around 1970, and it remained shelved for the next 15 years, until released on a Fleetwood Mac compilation album in 1985.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. Any tips , feedback etc always welcome.
Cheers, Shane
Hi Shane,
How beautifully and wonderfully sensitively playedā¦oooo how I would like to listen to it longer
Greetings
The man of the world was absolute beauty, man I only know best hits from Fleetwood Mac so thanks for sharing! Lovely piece of guitar playing you had going in there, and your voice was perfect and on pitch, dont hide it away again for that long!
Jumping at shadows intro - a very good start! No suggestions from my end, sounded really good.
āJumping At Shadowsā well done @sclay , on my WIP list too. You nailed that Boston intro note perfect. I didnāt know they did a proper studio recording; I have a version recorded at the BBC. Iām working on a different live version with a shorter intro though. Letās see how they compare. Is āThe Stumbleā on the back burner now?
Thanks for the listen Rory. No The Stumble is still there. Have the main 2 choruses down OK, but needs at least a couple more.
Cant get it yet to the original 134 bpm 16ths over the whole piece; that is quite pacy in parts. Have it around 120, which it still sounds pretty good at, so might leave it there.
I should probably do the full Need Your Love So Bad next. Iāve had it down for a fair while but have yet to record it.
Sometimes, Iāll hear a tune ( from whatever genre) and Iāll just have to learn it); so a bit a zigging and zagging going on at times.
Stay tuned.
Cheers,Shane
It is great! A lot of technical details there which are subtle, but very effective. You did them effortlessly, it looks like you are not even thinking about playing, but fully enjoying. Really well done Shane!
Thanks for the kind words Boris. Yep, some stuff is starting to come together OK, other things need some more focused work. All fun though
Cheers, Shane
I did the full version of that. The single version fades out during the last solo. I have another BBC recording where he doesnāt play a solo at all! Green would have played it differently every time.
Yep, I caught that one, and a good job you did on it too.
Yes, my favourite version is definitely the originally released single in 1968, with the fade out.
Cheers, Shane
Really well done Shane.
I admit doing a double take when you started singing - you have a wonderful voice.
And emotion really comes through in your playing.
Harmonics are very nicely doneā¦just fantastic.
Wow, these are two terrific performances Shane (yes, I only just saw your MOTW too - havenāt looked at AVOYP much since BLIM started).
Lovely singing and superb emotional playing mate - really look forward to the full Jumping at Shadows - I know thereās only so many hours in a day though!)
