AVOYP Community Christmas / Festive songs 2025

OH OH OH

Here is the community Christmas topic for 2025
it will be pinned for all the festive season

The goal of this topic is to gather in just one place our Christmas related videos ( AVOYP ) and use it as an easy to find archive in the years to come

You can perfectly post your Christmas related videos in your own logs or in a individual AVOYP , but please , share at least a link toward your video in this topic to keep a trace of it in the archive

You can share any type of songs , traditonal songs from your countries , pop , rock , metal , non christian songs , etc , as long as it is in the holiday spirit
You can play on an electric , an acoustic , a uke , pots and pans … anything !

Dont be shy if you’re a beginner, all levels are welcome !!!
The JG community is very supportive , especially at Christmas time !

Put your antlers on or wear your best santa suit and lets all enjoy the end of year together !

Lets start this year’s party !

I decided to go with Last christmas by Wham because it’s not Christmas without Wham isn’t it ?
It could have been better if I had time to practice it but I completely forgot that I should share a song and the only one I know is for the next OM so I only had a week and a half to learn a new one .
Too bad cause my teacher showed me some nice stuff to add more variations to the song
Next year maybe ?

Here is the best I could in just one week

I used this lesson to learn it : https://www.justinguitar.com/songs/wham-last-christmas-chords-tabs-guitar-lesson-st-116

Ok guys , now its your turn !
Post your videos under mine :slight_smile:

MERRY CHRISTMAS !

Hi All
Christmas, the time of repetitions, my song also fits in well with that tradition… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: …

Another song ( part) the chord melody that Justin plays from ‘Fairytale Of New York’, timing errors keep creeping in at 2 points…that will have to cook a while… :grimacing:

Greetings

I just love the way you play
its nice and smooth

You must have put hours of practice to get there
a really nice christmas piece :heart_eyes:

Thank you Deborah :blush:
It is safe to say “turn those hours into days” otherwise the number will be a bit large :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:, I divided it over 2 ‘after the summer’ periods until Christmas, this was really very difficult for me to learn and the funny thing is that I still don’t know why this was so much more difficult than my ‘Silent Night’ ( I guess the speed ?)… but fortunately I am still very happy with it and will practice it every day from now on because you never know when someone will put a guitar in your hands ,although those chances are very small this year…nice and quiet here :sweat_smile:

Greetings :christmas_tree:

Thanks for creating this topic again Deborah.

Well played, on your Christmas song. The tone was just right and you played it with good feel.

Fabulous Rogier, some smooth finger-style and a perfect tone.

Bravo, Deborah! :bouquet:
Well played with nice embellishments throughout, even visual seasonal cheer added :christmas_tree: :santa_claus:
I’m not sure if it is just my poor ear, or whether I heard a slight mismatch between the tuning of your guitar and the backing track, so I had a quick look on UG to check the suggested key.
Most of them indicate it’s in D (and play it in C with capo on 2nd fret). I haven’t had a go or even a proper listen. Anyone else any thoughts on this? :thinking:
That’s irrelevant anyway- congratulations and Merry Christmas!

@roger_holland Aaaahh… the gift that keeps giving… even better the second time around :face_savoring_food:
Seriously, well done for the playing, as well as joining in the festive season :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

And last but not least, my humble offering of a Christmas carol that is new to me this week:
I support The Burning Hell on Patreon and they have just come back from two weeks recording in Ireland with an artist called Carsie Blanton. She’s an American protest singer I had never heard of before, but I dipped into some of her stuff and came across her cover of this Anais Mitchell song. (She gets an extra dollar a month from me too now :rofl:)
I knew straight away I’d have to ‘learn’ it and play it as an opener for the house gig I’m hosting this Saturday :laughing:
Have peaceful festive season everyone, whatever deity you believe in or don’t :wink:

You re right !
I learned the song using Justin’s lesson
when I wanted to record I realised the song was no more available on the app to use it as backing track
So I used Yousician but had no idea what key it was , it seemed to me it was D but wasnt sure
Im not used to changing key … I had a very short delay to record , I had no time to learn it on the spot so I did with what I had at hand
it didnt sound too bad

As I said I did my best in just 1 week :sweat_smile:

Good job with your song but it sounded so sad :sob:

Wow, I am so impressed with you all Deborah @GrumpyMac , Rogier @roger_holland and Brian @brianlarsen that you have your songs ready on Dec 1st! All so different and all so very enjoyable in their own right. My song is chosen but I need a few more days to practise. I try and post before Xmas this year.

well I’m impressed Molly. Every year I pick a Christmas song to learn and more often then not I don’t get it ready in time.

That’s one hell of a song Brian. The lyrics really resonate. I have to resist the temptation to say more, it would break the community rules…and at Christmas! :joy:

@roger_holland

This is so easy on the ears, and super Christmas-y. Well played Rogier!

@brianlarsen

Nice! I’ve never heard of this song, but this is a good find. I like your version of it, seems like you’re having fun with it and it suits you well!

@GrumpyMac

Such a good a song. Can’t believe you learned it within a week! It sounds real nice, and bonus points for the festive video!

T’is the season to be jolly ………

Well Brian, that was a Christmas song with a message. Powerful stuff. All the traditional Christmas songs have a message, usually about peace and understanding, but that was rather a savage one.
Well played and sung with some great dynamics and feeling.

Good luck with the house gig this weekend. You’ll hopefully play some ‘jolly’ stuff too. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I definitely want to join, but there’s only one christmas song I am able to play and sing right now (and not securely enough yet) and I would like to keep it until the next OM and only post afterwards.
But maybe I’ll manage to get another song before this under my fingers - who knows…

@roger_holland I love your performance! :heart:

@brianlarsen yours too :heart:

@GrumpyMac now that I listened to your song with the backing track 1.9 semitones tuned down, love yours too :slight_smile: :heart:
