I decided to try to do my own thing with a genre that I’ve always loved, but in a different style to that I used to like. I’ve never really tried Chicago blues, no idea why not so I thought I would give it a go. I’m not 100% about it, I think maybe it’s a bit repetitive but here it is, see what you think. I’ve been working on it for quite a few days and it’s the last one I’ve managed to finish, so there’s going to be a wait before I get anything else done!
I know that a few of my posts with YouTube videos in have been changed to HTML Code, but on my iPad I don’t know how to do it.
EDIT: NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE, PROBLEMS WITH YOUTUBE REGARDING AI, MORE OR LESS WIPED ME OUT!
Hey Darrell - that was really good, really enjoyed that. If I’m being really picky then I preferred the first half to the second half as you breathed more in the first half. I’m guilty of the doing the same, which is why I’m tuned into it
Fabulous work though, thanks for posting.
Also, great tone! What are you using?
I’m using my Sonicake Matribox multi FX going into GarageBand via my Amp, most of the FX are done before GarageBand, and it’s a standard preset with minor adjustments. I tried using it going straight into the Amp and into the FX return of the FX loop also straight into GarageBand, I ended up into the FX loop of my amp which is a Hotone which is a tribute to the Fender Champ. I go from it into GarageBand, I find it better than the GarageBand Amp sims.
Yeah that second half was what I was unsure about for the same reasons, but it was just what came out of me in the mood I was in .
Darrell - that was terrific.
You had me sitting down in a smoky whiskey bar past the midnight hour - even though it was actually 9am when listening.
Cool indeed.
Thanks Richard, coming from you that makes it all worth the effort!
I’m really enjoying my new lease of life, it’s been quite good for my frame of mind as well as keeping me occupied. I like the contemporary side of playing as well but I’m never going to suppress my love for Blues; it’s been too long to loose sight of it!
Hi Darrell ,
Don`t say that what I quote above ,it sounds amazing and the sound is amazing
I will now continue the day here with nice music echo in my head and with a good blues feeling. Thanks ,Greetings
For someone who spends most of his forum time sharing high-energy, high-bosomed chicks thrashing nu-rock, you do intermittently remind us of your guitar abilities…
It frightens me to think of the stuff I’d get up to if I had your chops
Superb!
Thanks @roger_holland@brianlarsen
It means a lot to me for you to say those words; it’s taken me a very long time to get to this stage, there were lots of times I never believed that I could.
I am really enjoying it now and feel that all of the pressure I was putting on myself are gone; it’s all just for pleasure and sharing now.
Really expressive, bluesy and so musical. Something I noticed - and this may be obvious - is how spot on time wise your playing is, neither just ahead or just behind, but bang on the beat. That discipline adds to the tunefulness. Enjoyed it.
I liked the way the energy picked up in the second portion. Repetition is good but as you say maybe a little more progression in (I think) the penultimate 12 bars would make it even better.
But that’s just adding more gloss to the polish. Your playing has kicked up lately, and having known you so many years now, it is always extra joyful for me to listen to you making music
Very enjoyable mate, with some killer lines there. Probably another 100+ licks you could generate from that; there’s a lot there.
A couple of observations from a wannabe blues player if I may. In parts, it sort of got lost and didn,'t go anywhere, like spinning in a circle. Maybe a couple of contrasting breaks to mix it up. When crafting, I usually have 3 general areas of the fretboard as frameworks for low- medium- high registers, so I can ‘escape’ to one if needed.
As I said though, very enjoyable, with some killer lines ( and tone).
I agree, and I think that you’ve put your finger on what I wasn’t sure about; as I’ve already said I tend to play according to my mood, maybe when I recorded it my mind was in a bit of turmoil! Thanks for letting me know!
Darrell,
What a fantastic piece of music! Especially the first 70% got me instantly! It was a treat to listen, great groove going on. I’m not so much the type of drinkink whiskey in a bar , but I can feel the vibes for sure! Great playing and gorgeous sound. You can be proud of yourself!
