Finally, the Larsens and Chris will be playing together for real. Great stuff.
Completely relatable with regards to the uneasy feeling, but no doubt you will make this work. You played with lots of different folks, played with Chris (does it need more than 2 people to be considered a band? ) Just try to ease into it and - Iām sorry for this - let it go.
So, thatās how you treat your good friends?
But apart from joking, Iām sure youāll have lots of fun!
And Iāll have to find me a few mates to play with too!
With Chisā son now out of prison, it occurred to me- we should invite him to join us.
Will is a decent guitarist and keyboard player. Itās unlikely heāll come, but would be coolā¦
That would make the band 3 fathers with 3 sons and cousin Lars The concept made me revisit one of my earliest attempts at songwriting, which I just shared on my learning log here
Meanwhile on the organisational front, we have finally got all the votes in on the playlist
Hans- Rory Gallagher; A million Miles Away & Bob Dylan; One more Cup of Coffee
Chris- Elvis Costello; Whatās so Funny about Peace Love & Understanding & Radiohead; Karma Police
Niels- Pink Floyd; The Great Gig in the Sky & Marvin Gaye; Whatās Going On?
Tor- David Bowie; Quicksand & a 12-bar blues in A
Lars- The Beatles; While my Guitar Gently Weeps & Pink Floyd; Comfortably Numb
Me- Nephew; The Descendants of King Canute & Elbow; Leaders of the Free World
My brother vetoed a Nick Cave song I wanted to do, and Iāll be making the tea and sitting out on the Great Gig in the Sky. I canāt see what Iād contribute to thereā¦
Iām having fun learning to play them, but as you see, am also easily distracted
Haha, not many Clare Torreyās out thereā¦
As I said, Iāll be making the tea and watching in admiration as Lars has a stab at something like this young man
The Dublin (aka āroadieā) contingent have arrived in Copenhagen
Chris and I will rock up tomorrow morning, and hopefully Tor the day afterā¦
Itās happening!
Would have been fun to meet up for a coffee, but Iām actually leaving the country tomorrow for my own vacation. Oh well, once this band achieves international success youāll probably be back often - working on albums and such
Have a good one Brian!
Iām sure all those hours of intense practice sessions will pay off, and looking forward to seeing the full band versions
Richard
Copenhagen was an absolute BLAST on every front
I rekindled my love of Denmark; deepened my relationship with my Danish relatives; had great father/son quality time, going out to see bands at night, visiting Tivoli, swimming in the sea and playing frisbee in the park. Tor got to get to know his cousin Niels better, hitting the town most nights, playing music and hanging out together.
I got to play in a BAND for the first time!
Beers were had
All around a fabulous time with hardly any downsides.
Cousin Lars had done so much groundwork preparing for us: The basement was full of high-quality gear: a plethora of guitars; Fender, Marshall and Orange amps, monitors, drum kit, mixing desk and 8-track recorder. The list goes onā¦
Larsā nephew, Ebbe joined us on Friday afternoon and Saturday, which was when we did most of the recording. He brought a 5-string bass for Tor, who had never played one, but fancied a go. Took to it like a to
Hans and I used our mobiles, and Chris had a camera to try and capture some visuals.
As there were seven of us playing instruments with two mics and only an eight-track recorder, I made the executive decision to not record my guitar for most of the songs. I knew Iād be doing the mixing afterwards and could always add in my āstrum-a-dum-dumā at home if I wanted. With three good guitarists in the recording, itās not as if weād be short. I was plugged into the amp and monitors for all the songs though, so had the whole live experience, which was cool.
Iām now sat in front of my PC with a USB stick, containing 23 tracks, each containing 8 separate WAV files, requiring conversion to mp3, to be mixed in Reaper (essentially levels/panning/a bit of reverb), and married to any video we might have of those tracks. Iām taking liberties adding backing vocals, as Chris was sometimes a bit far from the mic and not picked up properly.
As you can see, the basement walls were absolutely choc-a-bloc with LEGO models.
LEGO is a derivation of the Danish phrase āLeg godtā which translates as āplay wellā
Hence: The LEGO Lads!
Hereās our āwhole-bandā setup, which wasnāt recorded on the 8-track, just on mobile-camera mic, so no mixing, but maybe more ārepresentativeā?
