Boom Bass with Licks

Great lesson from Justin. I expected to see a Guitar Pro file in the Resources section but I guess the Play feature serves a similar purpose and does more.

To celebrate signing up for Solo Blues, here’s my go at Boom Bass. I did this a while back when the initial lessons were posted and I’m now really looking forward to getting stuck into the course. I love this style of blues

Hi Peter, @Rock_Hopper
Nice … :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :clap:and another electric guitar blues arrangement player … the more often I hear it on electric, the more I like it … also for myself, this was a while ago … I will give this a refresher course in the next hour. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Have fun with the new lessons … the first ‘Target 3rd’ for me is in my head because I was able to play it this morning in bed without a guitar, just did it in real life with the guitar (sounds better anyway :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) and that goes without further guidance from Justin, tabs or long breaks … now the long fine-tuning for the real blues feeling …

Greetings and keep on going :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thank you Roger.
I’ll mostly be using my PRS semi-hollow for this course, it’s such a versatile guitar.
This is a style of blues that I really like, the lesson on targeting 3rds sounds interesting :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Love this course - please add the Guitar Pro File for the Prep Lessons, too.
For me it is much easier to practice with Guitar Pro. There are lots of helpful features for practice still missing in the MatchMySound-Play-mode.

After seeing this I changed my setup on the MacAir. I had it sittig on a music stand but suspect the right angle edge on the bottom was affecting the microphone (mounted under the mouse). Changed the angle and had a noticeably different result. Perhaps another trouble shooting idea.

Need some help with getting my pc to “hear” my guitar. I am using a strat with guitar plugged into my focusrite 18I8, channel 1. I am using headphones as I need to be quiet. My other apps such as Studio One or Audacity “hear” the guitar just fine, but when I try to use use it with the this app all I get is very faint volume and a lot of noise. I am using Chrome as a browser
Thanks

I was having issues with the Tuner. It doesn’t work in Google Chrome, but it works with Microsoft Edge.

sorry I wasn’t very clear, I meant jumping down the strings playing the melody… in any case in one of the following videos, Justin himself explains what I was asking, that he is mainly using the 1st finger to play the melodies. I also understand now why it felt weird in the beginning to do that or play some kind of mix of 1st and 2nd finger. I am playing a lot of fingerstyle and doing that you typically allocate 1 finger to each string of the melody.

For the second 12 bar group yes, for the first, the 12th bar is B7.

Not me. I’m using a pick as a lot easier than using my fingers. Mind you, still can’t get it!!

Hi
I’m really excited about this course. I have had a break but I’m back playing again. Just a question and sorry if this makes me sound thick but I’ve just started the first bars today and am stuck on the slide. I play slides on the violin but there is always the starting note and then the one you slide to. I just can’t see the starting note in the music. I understand I’m moving from the A to B from the vid but I can’t see the A in the music. Am i just reading it wrong? Should I be doing a separate unit on slides and the come back to this?
Thanks

Hey @Vonnegut (love the moniker),

When the starting note of a slide is not specified, it means that it’s not important where you start from. E.g. the very first note in the TAB is a slide up to fret 4 on the G string. You could start from fret 2 (the A note) as you say, but you could also start from fret 3. It’s a fast slide, so the starting note is not prominent at all.

hope this helps.

Great little intro tutorial, pretty easy after coming from Fretboard Confidential, but it sounds great and it’s lovely to play. What a beautiful start to this series… can’t wait to get my teeth into the other tutorials and the improv. With this and David Hamburgers tutorials then I am on my way to becoming a semi decent fingerstyle blues guitarist.

@Vonnegut Hello Anne and welcome to the community.
To add to the great answer from @jjw these slides with a non-specific start note can be called ‘slide from nowhere’.

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face: I just haven’t experienced that freedom in music before. I do improv but haven’t come across freedom in fast slides. Thank you
