Hi Brian,
I’m not going to repeat my things and just say…welcome back …
and nice you went to the St Patricks Cathedral saw a documentary about it ( actually about Patrick, but this was also included )last month…Beautiful building
Welcome back Brian
Sorry to hear your news, but glad you were able to be there. And on a happier note nice you planned trip to Dublin went well.
When you have got your breathe back happy to meet up for a finger toughening guitar session! My fingers are a little soft as well after grandparent duties, but home for a few weeks now.
Richard
Sorry to read about your loss, Brian. A small solace might be the fact you had the chance to say good bye. Hard to see family members suffering!
There are times for playing guitar - and there are times when other things are more important… you’ll restart again, when you are ready… , I’m sure you will!
So sorry to read about your loss, Brian. Gladly, you were there on time for last goodbyes. It’s good to read, that the planned trip to Dublin worked out all fine.
Looking forwardto read about the Jim White gig - typing with very soft (if not vanished) callouses, too. They will grow back for sure, once time and place for playing guitar is right for both of us.
Big hugs from Normandie mon amis and huge condolences. Nowt much has happened here, just ease in when you feel like it. Take care.
Sorry to read about your loss, my friend. Aside from the odd spammer there ain’t much to catch up on, so take it easy and look after yourself.
Oh man, that’s a hard one. Sorry for your loss, and it was good you managed to see her and be there for your family.
How was St. Patrick’s?
Dove’s Guide tells me it’s a 12 bell tower, with a 45 cwt (that’s 1.7 tonnes for the metric muggles) tenor.
That’s somewhat different from what St. Bridget has to offer.
Also, the draft looks quite long from the photo.
Did you ring Maximus?
Did you have a go on the tenor?
Cheers,
Keith
Very sorry for your loss Brian. Glad you were able to have some time with her, and say goodbye.
Been pretty quiet here really, although lots of songs etc for you check out at you liesure.
Love the photo at St Patricks.
Whack on a friar’s robe, remove those imposters from the background, and you got yourself a cool postcard.
Cheers, Shane
So sorry about your sister-in-law Brian, I’m pleased you got to say goodbye and attend the funeral. Please accept my condolences.
I wondered where you’d been recently, I’ve missed your chat. I should have known there’d be gigs, premieres, bell ringing, pizza and beer.
No, you haven’t missed much chat (quite a few really good AVoYPs though) but if you’d like to pop over here and tell us about your guitar journey …….
Many condolences Brian on the loss of your sister in Law. You have been missed around here so it’s good to have you back.
I’m very sorry about your sister in-law Brian. I thought that it was a little less entertaining here with your absence. Welcome back!
Brian, sorry to hear the news of your sister-in-law, but it was good that you could be there with her and your family and say your good-byes. It was also good to have time later to be with family and friends and happier occasions.
Condolences on the loss of your sister-in-law. I am happy you made it in time to say your goodbyes. Welcome back.
Sorry to hear your sad news.
Ah, it’s good to be back
Many thanks for all the condolences. Claire pushed the boundaries of medecine and lived an extraordinarily full and long life for someone with her condition. It’s her husband and son that will feel the loss.
A couple of more targeted responses:
Oooh, I’ll have to check that out!
It is indeed. I travelled with my electric bicycle and cycled from the ferry to the cathedral. I was too early for ringing but just in time for a lovely choral Evensong.
It’s a weird coincidence that my brother looks after all the IT in St. Pat’s as well and has installed the cabling and routers in the bell tower
Sounds good to me. Message me with (morning) options and we’ll pick a song to butcher
I’m glad I went for the experience, but don’t think I would go again. I enjoy ringing locally and being part of a community but am not one of those who like to travel and visit other bell towers.
I can see myself, however, ringing the bells of Christ Church Cathedral just up the road from it. I gather they have even more!
We only rang on 8-10 bells and it was a bit strange not having a full circle. Call changes, Grandsire and Plain Bob mostly. I hung around the 2 & 3. Oh yes, a long draft indeed
Six years in a boarding school run by habit-wearing monks is more than my fill of robes!
Hehe, I thought I’d covered that by declaring my callouses were soft
Actually, I have been working on that ‘thank you’ song for Jim White, which should be available at all good record shops soon, if I can get my brother to add some drums and figure out how my new DaVinci Resolve video editing program works.
Once again, ta for all the condolences.
No need for any more, as Gordon points out: it’s my learning log
One could say: it’s a habit you don’t want to get into.
I’ll get my coat…
Cheers,
Keith
Only vaguely guitar-related post:
Had a lovely week’s holiday in Wales with my girlfriend (yeah, she’s that too! )
The rain stopped soon after leaving West Kirby and the skies remained clear till we got into the car to come home again
We stayed in a lovely, bijou, ‘eco-pod’ (although I’m not sure what was eco apart from the recycle bin ).
Lovely long walks on the beach and in the countryside. Nice restaurants and home cooking

… Oh, and some flowers for Roger

It was so isolated, there was no light around at night and the stars were crystal clear, so I finally got around to learning how to identify the planets, main stars and all the visible constellations. So cool!
Every morning Ger would sit outside in the sun learning Welsh while knitting with a cup of hot tea, whilst I played my guitar indoors, looking out over the fields…
I brought my HB electric guitar and little wireless THR amp with me and had printed out most of the songs our ‘band’ are planning to play this summer in Copenhagen. (I had asked everyone to choose 2 songs) Man, it feels strange learning songs that are ‘popular’
I even threw in a couple of ‘campfire songs’ that I might learn before we go.
I’ll get there eventually
I’ve given up trying to keep up with the forum, but no doubt will browse through a selection of posts and see if people have been behaving themselves
No No Brian … Construction spanned the period 1933 – 1972. This architect has always denied the persistent rumor that he was inspired by the village of Portofino.
It all looks beautiful and wonderfully relaxed and the flowers are lovely (and that village looks a little bit “out of tune”
)
Why this talking guitargrxp at the end?
Those LL are intended for garden and outdoor photos … or did you miss the last briefing with me?
I see if I can get there sometime …maybe with some
Greetings for the two of you from us
Hehe, I knew you used your LL as a dumping ground, but hadn’t realised this was now official policy
I do like the look of that beach buggy… I wants it, my preciousss…
On a sadder note, Chris’ son, Will, was convicted of organising the (non-violent) Heathrow protest last week. Sentencing doesn’t take place till end of May, but he asked the judge if he could be held in remand custody till then, so his sentence starts now. The down side is that he’s in a tougher prison till then (Wormwood Scrubs).
And I thought the prisons were too full in the UK and they were sending people home
I have decided to write him a letter every week. At least I’ve got the first one in the post…
That brought back memories Mr L. Never saw a sky like that on the west coast, only horizonal rain, just a way north of Harlech ! We went from Formby to Gyrn Goch and 24v hrs later I dropped the family in Skipton (my parents) and drove back to pick up the sodden camping gear. Your eco vill makes plain sense !
Port Merrion remains a stunning and fascinating place, many visits over the years but yet to see the Blob !
Be seeing you !
