Just back from a lovely weekend in Dublin where my son was becoming Godfather for his cousin. Enjoyed sitting on the beach below Bono’s house watching my wife swim in the freezing sea…
Last Friday Jim Pearson played the song he wrote for Will to a sold-out gig where he was supporting Martin Stevenson
It went down a treat
I know… I saw that for the first time (in English) when I uploaded it to YT
It’s not what ‘I achieve’, but more what I try to be a part of…
Similar to participating here really
I saw you were playing out in the sunshine today, whilst some of us were toiling indoors…
(see below )
When I bought my HB Fusion III three years ago, I knew I was probably going to keep it, so had no qualms about ‘tattooing’ it with an indelible marker at the first string-change. I touch it up every year or so.
This morning however, we decided we’d go for a ‘piercing’ CiNDy was a tad anxious when I laid out my surgical instruments on the (kitchen) operating table and examining my electric drill, hammer and chisel
She knew however, that even if things went pear-shaped, it would still be worth it.
The object of our mutual desire had arrived yesterday, sans-tariff, from the good ol’ US of A.
It is no less than David Byrne’s (of Talking Heads) bootleg Johnny Dowd cassette tape of his debut album Wrong Side of Memphis from 1998. David had just released Jim White’s debut album on his Luaka Bop label and called Jim over to listen to it together. When they were done, David asked “What do you think?”
Jim’s mouth just dropped and murmured “I wish I had recorded that!”
How much good juju is it possible to infuse one item with?
Who knows?
One thing’s for sure- There ain’t no other guitar like this in the world!
Let’s say it’s a ‘snug fit’… so no.
I’m keeping my eyes open for one of those little pointy hammers with a sticker ‘In case of emergency, Break Glass!’
In any case, it’s only a tape recording of the album which I have in higher quality on CD anyway. I suppose it’s like owning the vinyl, but on steroids
Looks like there’s room for an 8 track in that top left quadrant if you are going real retro. Does the CP replace the Trio ? Perhaps that’s a future option, inboard bass and drums, next time you have a DIY urge ?
Mad as a box of frogs Brain, mad as a box of frogs !
re: the commissioned song … did you stipulate that the title included the words ‘a minor’ and that several minor chords be included in the progression?
re: the customisation of Fusion … what can I say? I’m reeling …
Not at all, but I can’t imagine a song without them
Minor fun-pun-peak was reached in my Beelzebub’s Bells song about bellringing in hell with: Striking minors/miners underground
ringing minor key changes
putting our shovels down and refusing to dig ourselves any deeper
good ol’ child-beating
Not much left to say re ‘con-fusion’ except that Johnny liked and shared the pics on his fb page. I’m a sad celeb chaser At least I set my standards low…
Haha, well money sure can’t buy this kind of love!
I’m afraid not, although there’s almost nothing that hasn’t been tried with/done to a guitar.
The closest thing I could think of as ‘inspiration’ would be a Laurie Anderson gig I went to when I was 18. She had replaced the horsehair on her violin bow with prerecorded magnetic tape and fixed a tone head onto her violin so she could play the recording with the bow. Very avantgarde.
In fact you did me a great favour, because it made me search YT for her film Home of the Brave, which I’d only seen excerpts of before and found someone had uploaded the whole thing. Take a look and see it in the first song of the wonderful performance. The rest is well worth it too. Adrian Belew plays ‘experimental’ guitar and she dances with William S Burroughs
I don’t have the time at the moment to watch such a long video… busy in the garden as you can read.
And a lot of traveling with my girl, and today we celebrate 80 years of freedom …
Thank you all , this village and surroundings are full of city flags and/with Canadians (The largest part consists of their then flag: a red surface with the British ‘Union Jack’ and a coat of arms, on which, among other things, the ‘maple leaf’ can be seen, the symbol of Canada. in one because they were here first … )and of course thank you to everyone … many nationalities who have contributed in a different way that we can now celebrate this in freedom. In about an hour we will be on the road again…it is a holiday that is full of music in Holland…
