Someone, I think Brian Larsen, suggested I give this one a go a while back. Thanks to whomever reminded me of the song. I always liked it.
Really good cover Jay. It’s a nice song and well played and sang, cheers Hec
Man, that was real professional Jay!
Ya didn’t miss a beat. Speaking of. You kept the beat perfect imho. How are you doing that? At this point in my playing. I gotta have some external source keeping the beat for me or I drift off tempo. You didn’t seem to do that. Kudo’s man!
Nice rendition Jay. You played that very well.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jim. I do think I speed up and slow down a bit here and there, but that often works out okay if you’re playing solo.
That was awesome.
Standing singing and playing. You cant ask for much more. Thanks for posting that.
Wow! That was truly beautiful. Great playing, singing and excellent recording. Sheer pleasure to listen to.
Jay
That was superb! I have a recording of Harry Chapin performing this live in New York: your version compares favourably. The strumming pattern, the picked notes between verses, the dynamic variation your voice, your feel for the song’s lyric and message: brilliant! One of the best performances I’ve seen here.

Super version Jay, I really enjoyed that. The Harry Chapin version is the one you normally hear but Johnny Cash does a great one too.
Well done.
Oh I just got some chills.
In the late 70’s I was my college newspaper’s photo editor, so I got into the Harry Chapin concert at no charge (money being a scarce commodity back then, this I thought was a good thing.)
Turned out it was a bit of a bummer because I didn’t know Chapin’s music, and he really grabbed me (he was also a fine entertainer). I just wanted be with his music and not be concerned with getting good pics.
You just brought me back to that concert almost 50 years but this time I could focus on the music.
Thank you for sharing. It was a pleasure–so much so I listened to it twice!
No critique here, Jay… that was EXCELLANT!!! Fine performance & a really enjoyable listen!
Thanks for posting!

Wow, that was great rendition Jay. The singing, the strumming and the individual notes all flowed so nicely.
Great performance, Jay. I’m really impressed.
6 out of 5 stars!!! Guitar playing, singing, performance, message - all spot on.
Nice one Jay, solid as always, really enjoy your sound
Fabulous Jay, love the song.
The version I know is by Cat Stevens. Always loved the song, so poignant, such a cautionary tale.
Fantastic job Jay. Your guitar work was spot on and your voice is perfect for this song.
Great job! Thanks for posting.
Really great playing and singing, Jay. Very enjoyable listen!
i’ve listened several times and enjoy it every time, i’d give you more than one like here and a thumb on YT if I could. Thanks and I look forward to hear more from you!
