CHOCOLATE JESUS by BETH HART

This is CHOCOLATE JESUS. I took the Beth Hart and Bonamassa version on Karaoke.com, kept the voice, drums and percussions and I loaded it on Logic. I add the rhythm and solo guitars, the bass, the piano and the melodica. Working on palm muting and looking as little as possible at my left hand…

I also introduce to you the new melodica and the new Godin SD guitar. Love this guitar. Three pickups. 2 single coils and 1 humbuker. Fell I’m driving a sports car… Also first use of the DS-1 Boss Distortion pedal.

I know this song is an earlier level but still makes me work…

Recorded in december 2023.

Good day you all.

Nice Job, I may be totally mistaken but they might have used that song on the HBO show Boardwalk Empire. It could be another show or I could be completely wrong all together :joy:

Great work :call_me_hand:

Fabulous production in every aspect, Luc.

Love this version of the song, one of many wonderful songs on the Live in Amsterdam album. Showcased so many playing skills. Excellent job to record and produce the video.

Maybe the guitar parts could have been a little louder in the mix (my totally subjective 2cs worth opinion, rather than a criticism)

Good to hear from you again.

Terrific production, Luc!

It is incredibly impressive you played so many parts yourself, wow! The result was a most enjoyable listen and all parts were put together well. Chapeau!

Hi David :exclamation: Thank you for your nice words. I also appreciate your comment about the balance of the guitar. The mix part and all the sounds ajustments part are not really in control yet… I was wandering about the guitar balance myself. So I gave it another try, changed the guitar volume, mixed the guitar a little louder (2dB). Just a pinch louder. Please tell me what you think. Learn from comments. Thanks in advance David. Good day :exclamation:

Thank you so much Lisa :exclamation:

Thank you :exclamation: I must say I have A LOT OF FUN doing all this. Thanks again and good day :exclamation:

Thank you Nick :exclamation:

Nice arrangement Luc. That was enjoyable.

The piano you blow into was surprising - I hadn’t seen one of those before.

BTW - your strumming on the acoustic looked uncomfortable. Sounded ok though. Perhaps some work on how you hold and strum the acoustic might be time well spent.

I think you have improved it, Luc.

Listening again, maybe play around with panning on the tracks to get a little more width. Acoustic is coming through strong in my left ear. I think something to balance that in the right channel maybe?

What a great video, Luc  The whole production did so clearly bring Tom Waits to mind… even when this was the cover of a cover :slightly_smiling_face:

I also noticed the unusual positioning of both accoustic and electric guitar(s) but I thought this decision was driven by the song and the fact that you were making a really unique video?

Great to see another Godin being played … Sounded good :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Nicole (@jokuMuu ) :exclamation: Thank you for your nice words. About the positionning, I’m trying different positions. Problems with the right elbow (bursitis) that just doesn’t finish. Had to stop practicing for 4 months. Cortisone shots. Now I can play an hour a day. I find holding the guitar this way maybe puts less pressure on the elbow. But maybe it has some downsides… I don’t know… To be followed… So you have Godin guitars in Finland :exclamation: Great :exclamation: So you’re my little Finnish cousine :exclamation: How do you like her  I watched your video and she sounds and lood great :exclamation: Take good care cousine and have a great day :grinning:  :upside_down_face: :grinning: :grinning:

That’s the great thing about this community… It really feels like family sometimes :slightly_smiling_face:

Hmm… So it was innovation invented by pain. Hope those symptoms will die down soon, so that you can play in a more comfortable position again.

Yes, they have Godin in Finland. Mine? I love her even more than on the first day . Happy with yours?

Love my SD ! It’s a sports car. Easy to play. Stay in tune. Good pickups. They don’t make this model anymore. Looks a lot like their new LERXST or SESSION models. But less expensive… Bought her used with no signs of age. Mint. I Have to adapt playing such a little guitar. I’m used to play bigger ones. Sheraton, Casino or acoustic. Until now, used her for the solos. But its a very versatile instrument. You can play anything from metal to cool jazz. Have a good day cousine :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

Hi @jkahn ! Thanks for your note. I agree with your observation on the uncomfortable strumming. I’m trying things these days. Exploratoin since I’m still suffering from a bursitis in the right elbow, I change the angle of the guitar so I fell it releave some pressure in the elbow (opening up the angle) but it may have some downsides. I don’t know. But maybe, this is not realy what you were talking about. If so, tell me more. Maybe I should find a guitar teacher I could work on those points with.

About the piano part, I just saw there was a piano track on the KARAOKE.COM version and tought to reproduce it (aprox…).

Thanks again JK and good day
