I put a version of this up the other day. I rarely dislike a song so much after posting it that I feel I need to take it down, but this was one of those occasions. I did not like my vocals or the bridge on the first go round. I’ve revised it and believe I’ve improved it.
Morning Jay,
I caught this when you posted the first version but never commented. I thought it was fine, but it didn’t float my boat the same way as some of your previous work
I often have that urge, partly because I often share in enthusiasm, before it’s fully baked, and then cringe when I look/listen at the gloopy mix later…
Listening again, I find this version so much more satisfying. Whether this is due to the changes you made, or simply because of repeated listening, I can’t tell. I suspect both, but it’s a compliment whichever it is
On a side note, it reminded me of this Gary Larson cartoon:
Sounds great to me. Both playing and singing. The song itself is beautiful, congrats on the composition.
So true, so true, probably for many of us here… I subscribe to it
Brian, you’re so right about sharing out of enthusiasm. Writing songs requires a lot of energy, and I have a tendency to rush it, sometimes to the point of saying “good enough” when it could be much better.
As I learn more about music theory from Justin, I suspect I’ll see options for more complex chord progressions and melodies, and writing songs will probably entail more rewriting.
Loved the cartoon.
