Encouraged to see so many Senior Citizens learning guitar

Just wanted to say that I am really encouraged by the number of Senior Citizens (age 65 or older in the United States) and those around that age in their early 60s that are learning to play guitar. I actually thought that I would be the only Senior using Justin’s fantastic courses. At age 68 and with only three chords in my portfolio, I thought I’d be by myself within that age group learning to play guitar.

My sincere recognition and appreciation to those 60 years old and above that are new subscribers and those already taking lessons under Justin’s instruction. You all know some of the challenges we face like arthritis, aging memory, vision and hearing issues, etc. but are persevering and pressing on to become guitar players.

If you would like to post in this thread, I’d be curious to know just how many started to learn guitar at age 60 and above. You will be a big inspiration to me and hopefully others to keep on pressing forward with our vision to become guitar players.

Thanks for your dedication to this art and for your anticipated participation in this thread. God bless you all in what I consider a very big challenge to undertake in our age group but I also know that when you want something really bad, you’ll find a way to achieve your want.

Cheers! Dave (Wheelin_Rev)

I started 8 years ago at age 67. Here I am at 75, not very good, but still plugging away at it. There are a lot of us. Check out this thread:

Hi Mark,

Wow! I didn’t see that thread… I’ll have to post there. Perhaps I’ll be Post #1007. Thanks for pointing that out to me!

Hi Mark, I started about 2 months after turning 60 after my wife gave me a starter acoustic guitar for Christmas. That will be 7 years ago in about 3 months. It has been a great experience, especially since my wife Jen started learning bass guitar.

Hi @Elixir1253,

Thanks for your post! You sound a lot like me. Still in youth category (keeps the spirit high, the body limber, the grey matter active, and the red stuff flowing), have strumming struggles, and play guitar hoping not to break any windows. :joy:

I see that you are part of the kennel that @Richard_close2u keeps watch over in the thread mentioned by @markr31 above in the second post. I’ll be seeing you around. Now to go find my dog bone and practice some strumming…

Cheers mate! Pastor Dave (Wheelin_Rev)

Like your sentiment. I started playing about 7 years ago and joined Justinguitar shortly afterwards. Now 75 years young. I was an serious active athlete for many years but had to give up my sport and was in a bad place not knowing what to do. Fortunately, I started playing the guitar and finding Justin was a new beginning. Working on Justin’s theory course was an eye opener and has opened so many doors in my music journey and now play solo on open mic nights in my local pub. A frightening experience at the beginning, but the guitar community are so supportive. Need to work on my singing however but who cares. Enjoy.

I have just closed this topic so that we are not doubling up on the old dogs topic.
