My first song ever completed. This is the first time I ever finished this song from start to end without any major mistakes. I actually started learning how to play the guitar just to play this song, I think I’ll continue trying to learn haha.
Took me around 36 days with around 40+ mins a day of practice.
Hi Rommel,
Congrets on your first video
Fast guitar playing and good singing too…very well done…and it would easy to sound even better if that metronome didn’t tick through …but I still think it’s very good
I understand your sigh of relief at the end …I have that so often
Greetings,Rogier
thanks Roger. and yeah, my timing gets super off when i don’t have a metronome since my singing messes with my picking hand too much. maybe one more month of practice and i can get better at multitasking haha
Hey Rommel,
I think you did great job. I was able to stay and listen to your whole cover, which means I did not get bored through whole song what can be sometimes problem for me when listening to community cover.
I would like to know how do you feel when playing this? I am learning fingerstyle playing too, but sometimes I feel too focused or too “tough” and not that relaxed and chill how I should be. Guess its part of proces, because it needs to click.
Great job! It’s a tough one to play along to let alone sing and play. The uneven nature of the flow of the lyrics really complicate things. It’s one that I’ve got on a back burner at the moment (I’ve got no intention of singing and playing).
thanks Carreta. I guess the relaxed part comes with just sort of knowing the feel of the song with your muscle memory. I still haven’t fully got it though since I still need a metronome to not mess up when i add singing, but really it seems like it all just comes down to practicing and it just slowly comes together.
thanks Mattswain
Great performance. IMO you perfectly captured the mood of the original. Awesome singing and guitar playing, technically good recording.
That was fantastic Rommel and congratulations on posting your first video. I can’t find any faults in your performance, lovely playing and you have a nice singing voice.
Wow ! Great job ! Beautiful !
Nice job Rommel! This was one of the first finger picking songs I learned. I still can’t sing and play it at the same time, though. One or the other always falls apart as soon as I try.
Hey Rommel @rvil that was amazing!!
Quite the doozy of a first song to learn and play.
I totally undertstand about having the metronome helping out and you will be able to get around that with time and practice. It IS super important that you develop your own internal rhythm and that you are able at some point to substitute the click for a foot-tap. In fact, I pretty much went from metronome to foot tapping by just starting to tap my foot to the click track and then leave it (the clicker) behind after a bit.
The issue with Fast Car, it seems to me, is that although the main riff is relatively mellow to play once, it is quite intensly repetitive and this repetition can make it difficult to keep everything together and in time. Also the transitions from verse to chorus require extra special attention.
Regardless of all that, you are playing and singing the song smoothly. It sounds really good!! After another +/-1440 minutes of practice, I am sure you will have the whole thing totally seamless.
Great job and keep on going!! Quite an accomplishment to learn to sing and play this song as a first one!! Well done!!

Really good performance Rommel!
Very well done - Bravo!
Hi Rommel!
Nicely played & sung… your timing was good, your fingerpicking was good… I really enjoyed this version of a Classic song! I’ll add to the chorus above… lose the metronome as soon as you can & that would make it pretty much perfect! Do you have any other Tracy Chapman songs on the back burner? I’m looking forward to hearing your next effort, no matter who did the original!!!
Keep playing & have fun!!!
Tod
Hi Rommel,
Fantastic, congrats on the video and a great cover, nice work, the hard work is evident
Well done and congrats, Rommel.
You could consider using an ear-piece for the metronome to keep it out the recording.
Look forward to your next.
Thanks Coda
Thanks Eddie
