Fay's Learning Log

Thank you for the advice @batwoman I’ll keep it in mind as I play. The hanky van was a dodgy typo - it should have read janky

I reckon there’s a song in there @Dave911 :microphone:

Hi Fay, you’ve provided an enjoyable and insightful start to your learning log plus some lovely pictures and a recording too! What’s not to like?

I thought that sounded really great @Oopsadaisyfaisy. The picking sounds really intricate and I don’t think I’d know where to start with Travis picking!

Thank you @Tracey63
Picking is a bit of a necessity in here, the volume is lower so it doesn’t bother neighbours and my better half. Consequently my strumming is horrible :joy:
And it’s not as complicated as you might think!

Some learning thoughts that didn’t enter my head when I wrote the OP

  1. Right now, if I’m having one of those days when I can’t squeeze anything tuneful out of my guitar (fairly often), I play my ukulele. And then I laugh.

  2. If I’m having difficulty working out how a song works, I explore it and mess around with it on the uke until I figure it out.

  3. If all else fails, and my fingers feel like fat rubber sausages, I go to Bob. Bob Dylan never fails to offer a satisfyingly playable tune. I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight, and Dont think twice it’s alright are my favourites.

Good strategy Fay. When I’m struggling with a new song, especially one where the lyrics seem at odds with the strumming pattern, I’ll go back to an old favorite to regroup. :sunglasses:
