Please listen to my version of the standard Fever, a song written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, who used the pseudonym “John Davenport”. It was originally recorded by American R&B singer Little Willie John.
I’ve heard many different arrangements for this song, including some based on just one chord and some with complex jazz harmony. I played it in the key of C#m and used only two chords for the BT, namely C#m7 and G#7 as the dominant.
Played on my newest babe, a HB SC P-90 through a Hotone Ampero Mini for amp/can modeling an all effects.
OK. So here is the new version; I’m not saying it’s corrected or improved, just different. I stripped the song of the drum machine and played more scarcely. And there is a surprise for those who will listen through the whole song I hope you’ll like it.
Hi Tomasz, really great sounding playing there. Production wise, perhaps a little less delay would be good so we can hear your playing, which sounds awesome. Just a suggestion!
This is an interesting version of a classic song. I agree with @mundeli: the effects on the lead / melody line are causing overlap and almost distorting what should be a far cleaner and clearer tune.
@twistor59@Digger72@mundeli@Carreta@beejay56 : Thanks guys for listening and honest opinions. Well, my apologies to those who feel disappointed…
I don’t know… perhaps I should delete it and replace with a new version…
I don’t think anyone was disappointed!
I thought the playing was really good - super phrasing and note choice.
You could keep the current one and just add a new one “Fever - cleaner mix” or something like that. I doubt anyone’s suggesting to completely get rid of the delay/reverb, just to dial it back a bit.
No criticism here… this song has been done so many times by so many artists… this is your interpretation & I like the vibe your use of delay gives it! Feels like “intentional over-saturation”!
It’s !!! Fun listening! Thanks!!!
@AlyKat@CATMAN62@Carreta : Thank you so much for the kind, encouraging words. Criticism is OK, it’s never a devastating blow to my pride… It’s just that I always strive to keep the highest quality standards within my reach, of sheer respect for this great community. People express their honest opinions that are definitely worth taking into consideration.
In the case of this particular recording, the perception of the overall sound may depend on the device from which it’s listened to.
@twistor59 : It’s a great idea, thank you. Actually, I have a few ideas of how to make it better, and certainly more interesting. I’ll just need some time, but I’m going to add it to the same topic, anyway.
That’s really nice. We’re working on Fever in a jazz combo I’m in but using the Michael Buble version which is quite jazzy, we have a great horn section. Thanks for sharing!
@sticktothemuse@Willsie@DavidP : Thanks a lot for stopping by and listening, as well as for the kind words; always appreciated.
Very likely that you will… and thanks for the suggestion. It’s coming, I have a fresh idea for the arrangement, just give me some time. I’ll post a link in the same topic.
Wow …they both sound great, but I personally preferred the second one.
I know really little about Jazz and Blues…there’s this tune I know which is called The Saint James Infirmary Blues (I might give it a try one day or the other ) and the second recording brought it to my mind……or ears…
Very well played and lovely tone as always
@Silvia80@frito : Thank you so much for the kind words. I myself am not sure which version I prefer; I enjoyed playing and recording the second one more, though.
