For Loving Me, Gordon LIghtfoot

Thank you very much, I’m so encouraged by everyone! I see you are from Scotland. I’d love to visit someday. I’m going to make a point to listen to your learning log.

thank you so much for that explanation. There is quite a bit of lingo that I don’t quite understand yet, but I’ll learn with help with people like you!

Hehehe. My name is Trond, but that name was probably occupied, so i had to come up with something else. So hence the name tRONd  and yeah. Trond is pretty close to Ron in english:grin:
Take the next step whenever you feel for it is my suggestion, but no need to stress. Im not finished with the 2nd course. But i dont do the course regulary, i guess i need to tighten up. I practise a lot of chord changes and shapes though. But i make slow progress on the course
For me the most important thing is to play songs and a lot of different ones. I think there is some learning in that too.
But one day i will be better with my training routine🤣

And again… nothing to be shamed of at all!! It was great!

David, thank you so much for your feedback. I did listen to one of your recordings, but lost and couldn’t find my way back. I’m still learning the hiway of the community!!
I’m very encouraged by everyones kind words. And I really appreciate your suggestion on singing higher. I’m scared to. I was once in a singing Christmas Tree at a church and loved it so much. As long as I have someone I can "follow’ I can try to hit the note. Mostly, I think I can tell when I’m not on tune. I would like to learn to sing better, or be more confident. and know it is a muscle, that needs to be exercised, just like playing soccer or hiking. So, I think I could get better. I have tried the capo on many songs, but I will keep working on it and step out of my comfort zone some more.
really, thank you so much…lI can’t wait to pick up my guitar again this am!

Hey Trond,
Good to hear back from you. Yes, I was getting bored just playing five songs. But I found that as I pulled out my old music, that there was some songs that I could play so much better than before. So, I think, I have made some improvement…
I have a folder with the songs I’m working on, and then I made a binder with copies so that when I get together to jam I’ll have a copy for the other person. The binder also has in it some songs that are a bit too difficult, but I want to learn, so as I learn more chords or what ever, the music will be there.
Well, going slow is ok, I tend to jump in with two feet. It really takes a lot of time out of the day to practice. Being an old dog makes that a bit easier for me. Going at your own pace is just fine.
Question: You are from Norway? I love your accent. It sounds to me more Scottish.
I’ll be looking forward to your next recording!
maidie

Well that was a definite success Maidie. Very nice playing and clearly you’ve been strumming that way a while. Chord changes were very neat (just a little wobble towards the end…but you kept playing). The vocal was absolutely fine as well and nothing to worry about there. Thank you for sharing a very nice performance.

Congratulations on your first song posting Maidie.

I’ve heard of Gordon Lightfoot but I don’t really know any of his songs but I really enjoyed this.

I think you are overly critical of your voice.

You can sing, Madie. Do not fret. I love Gordon Lightfoot also. Very inspiring. :two_hearts:

Maidie, I had great success taking Chris Liepe’s online Discover Your Voice course. Of course there are other options. You can get a taste of his style and approach here. I find my experience with him to be much like with Justin, only difference being that one buys his courses. There isn’t the same Community but he does engage with students, listens to recordings and gives feedback which helped me a ton.

Nice Gordon Lightfoot cover – we don’t get nearly enough of his genius around here. First video? Smacked it out of the park. Solid share! Dug it!

I really liked that. I hope to be as good as you.

thank you. You will! What I’m doing is very basic. You’ll be there in no time.

Thank you. I listened to one of your videos too. Now that is something to aspire to. Playing the fret board is cool. Got a question though, what is up with the headphones? I see lots of people wearing them. What are you listening to?

Thanks! I appreciate the kind comment.

I’m not sure where you are in your journey, so I will try and simplify things. I use earphones when I record direct with multi-tracks. One track is the backing track, which I hear through the headphones while recording. The backing track is a separate track on my computer, my lead track is recorded as another track as the backing track is played.

My guitar is plugged into an audio interface which then allows me play direct into the computer. No ambient parts are recoded as would be the case with a microphone. No one else in the house hears the entire track.

Being able to record direct like that has a number of advantages. Hope that helps!

Clint, thanks for getting back to me. I just went from Course 1 to 2. Not sure I’m altogether ready, but thought I’d try it.

I enjoyed that. My foot started tapping and head started swaying :+1:

Hi,
Nicely done. I liked your play and vox. You seemed relaxed, even if you were not feeling that.

On singing, I know your focus is guitar. But you can use that to improve your vocal pitch control. Pick a guitar scale that is easy for you. Then play it and harmonize with your voice. Also, look around on the net for a warm up video as that will help too. Lastly, I don’t hear where you are all that far off on vocals, at all…

Keep rock’n,
LB

LBro, thanks for your encouraging words. Yes, I want to get better at the guitar, but it is fun to sing our favorite songs! i will look around for some warm up exercises. Another member mentioned a singing course, and it looks pretty good. But we are going into spring soon, and I don’t want to get over booked.
I am looking forward to seeing your work too.
maidie

Mangesh, that is certainly a good testimony to get your foot tapping! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for listening.

Good Morning David,

I did look at chris’s website, and found the free 3 lessons, and have signed up for that. I’m not sure I’m ready to add more to my plate at this point. But, playing and singing do go together, so perhaps.
Again, I’d just like to thank you for you terrific feedback and encouragement.
