Free coaching session about performing & stage fright? (music & public speaking)

Hi guys,

  • Feel paralyzed before a presentation or musical performance?
  • would performance tips and best practices make you more confident?
  • Are you interested in a free coaching session about stage fright and “going on stage”?

I decided I want to offer 2 people at least one free coaching session.

What’s the catch?

I already coach people in their guitar journey as JustinGuitar Approved Teacher. I see people in private sessions online; students from all over the world. It thrills me to see students have an aha-erlebnis, when it clicks. I enjoy seeing people succeed as much as making music myself. We all have different interests and aptitudes in music. I hear them out and show them a route I think would work for them.

Meanwhile, I’d like to improve myself as well.
I’d like to develop the facet of stage fright and fear of public speaking in my set of coaching skills.
Just like playing guitar, practice is the key to development.

What can I expect from this free session??

→ I learn from the challenges you face and how you handle them. with or without success
→ Then I pass on what I think could help for you specifically, based on your situation

The session will consist of:

  • an online talk with google meet, no software required because it’s brower based; a camera and microphone/headset is required though. We just need to find a timeslot
  • me asking you quite a lot of questions to assess your situation, SWOT, experience, hurdles,
  • you willing to share your story, in 100% confidentiality of course!
  • me offering you tips and/or rudimentary plan and approach towards a change, example how you could deal with situations you face
  • It might lead to more (free) sessions, it all depeds on the outcome and the value both sides experience from the talk.

“I’m interested, where do I sign up?”
Cool. Indeed you have nothing to lose, right? except perhaps an hour of your time

Send an e-mail to lieven at´´ justinguitar ´´dot com and put “Free coaching Stage Fright” in the subject line. briefly describe what you would expect.
I’ll draw 2 random people from the candidates I think I could help.

I’ll leave this offer up until Dec 13 2025. (shorter or longer, depending on the popularity)

My backstory on this subject

A certain statistic keeps coming back to me in various media; it is claimed that more people are afraid of public speaking than being afraid of death.

So they rather be there in the casket than being up front, reading the eulogy?

Fascinating…

“But you were born without fear?!”

True.
we are all born without fear. Fear is something we learn along the way.
I still fear things, other things though. I used to fear being in front of a bunch of people too.

I think it’s fascinating because I love the thrill of being on stage now, the opportunity to inspire, move or inform people. Wouldn’t it be valuable if I could pass that on to other people?
It is one o my main drivers to host my “Motivation & Inspiration” Live Clubs.

At work, when a presentation needs to be done, I get the feedback that I should be in entertainment. I have something useful to tell while I enjoy the fact I’m actually getting kudos for telling a story while having the luxury of their undivided attention. Everybody wins?

My wish is to get better at making my passion contagious so it can pass on to you.
I’m thinking about how I can coach this effectvely and that takes some experimentation
That’s why I’m offering you a chance to participate for free.
That is totally fair because I will learn from you and I’ll offer all the advice I can.

Also, I’m planning to produce a test episode for a JustinGuitar podcast and I want to start with a subject that brings significant value. This is one of the top items on my list!

To wrap up, a shoutout to my friends and fellow teachers Richard “Close 2 U” Coles and Lee Mead-Batten. If you ever consider trying one or more sessions with a private teacher, why not consider a JustinGuitar Approved teacher? https://www.justinguitar.com/teachers

You can just start playing without saying anything.

I think this is a brilliant idea Lieven. I keep telling my wife I don’t want to perform in front of anyone and she asks well why are you learning guitar?

I have no problem with talking. The stiff fingers and memory lapses in first 5 minutes of playing - this is what’s bothering me.

Just watched the recording of the Open Mic. Stiff fingers you say, huh?
Thanks for the performance, it was stellar!

Thanks :metal:
However the fingers did go on strike in the middle of the solo :person_shrugging:

Wow, thats really cool Lieven.

The winners of the lucky draw have been contacted today.

Beginning of January I will book the sessions.

I hope to do a useful lesson on this topic one day, as many could benefit from it, whether it concerns public speaking or performance anxiety.
